Hello decadence
Oh for sure.
I have great respect for science, but tis but just another human construct, albeit an honest and honourable one, when done well .

I have a very committed spiritual life and practice, based around understanding, awareness and acceptance.

And practice a kind of detachment from outcomes, that doesn't stop me striving for better.

I've also found that living as if there is this thing called 'spirit' whether individual or collective, makes for a better, and nicer life all round.

Having a chat with the 'cosmic forces*' whatever they are is a fine thing to do as well..

Bigger picture etc etc

* If we actually knew, what that was, it would probably bust our tiny little brainiums...

Better get the pizza in >>>>>>
According to Google.......Hestia is the Greek god of pizza.

(well the god of the hearth.....but that's close enough)

The phenomena of science is, as near as it a can ever be, an empirical construct, although one that is often applied to the of abstract concents designed to account for observed discrepancies.

But science itself as applied to thenp study of nature and creation, ie, physica, astonomy, chemistry, etc, ismindeed a human construct, but that which is under investigation exists regardless of mankinds enquiry into their being.

Arguing over the results, burning all the books, shooting Brian Cox, none of it changes the nature of nature.

Ah....the theory-ladenness of science.....Thomas Kuhn and Paul Feyerabend. Both great philosophers.

The bit of the catholic church rites blaming the jews was only removed in the late 50s/early 60s.
1964 to be precise.

If all the religious and science books were mysteriously erased overnight; in 2000 years time all the religious books would be different, but all the science books would be the same.

Although the attitude still persists. As aforementioned, I married into a Catholic family and in some quarters im regarded as a heady mix of Satan and Jack the Ripper for being a 5 x 2. Even worse, I'm a divorcee!

Mrs Ds mum and dad and close family are lovely, but some of them in that corner of Cathilicdom still have a decidely dated view of jews.

Still, if theres a big family get together I make a point of wearing either my Mossad or Shin Bet T shirts.

I'm not so sure about that - science is changing all the time as new things are discovered and new theories evolve. For example look at Newtonian mechanics superseded by General Theories of Relativity which has been surpassed by String Theory. Books on science from the mid-1900s can look pretty dated these days.

edit: of course I should have written quantum mechanics rather than General Theories of Relativity......silly me.....any fule no that

Some physics even tends to read almost like spirituality nowadays too.

Multiverses and suchlike.

Maybe I was a bit clumsy with my observation.
What I meant to convey was that the basic theories of science would be rediscovered but all of the relgious beliefs would be unrecognisable to those of today.

The religious orders have bitterly opposed every reform relating to relationships and sex that have been introduced. Divorce, contraception, decriminalisation of homosexual acts between men, abortion, civil partnerships and gay marriage. They have only relented on some of those because they were so far off the pace even among their own followers that they'd have disappeared if they hadn't. And in parts of the world with a strong Catholic population they haven't changed at all.

If they had their way the priests would still be scouring the lanes with a stick looking for courting couples after village dances as was the case in Ireland even up to the sixties. And all while ignoring the widespread child abuse being carried out by their own members to protect their reputation.

Why do they have building insurance?
A Presbyterian Church quite close to me is pretty new in church terms as it was built in the late '70s as the original one burned down due to an electrical fault.

I believe it is the third church on that site as I think the original was also destroyed in a fire in the late 1800s.

So obviously best to have building insurance as the house of God is not immune to fires.

Although you have to wonder why an all-knowing, all-powerful God would let his house burn down twice

The clue might be in the creed or whatever that you sometimes see in old churches (I know one in the city of London) - all that stuff about I'm an angry/jealous whatever god. Complete theatrical attention demanding psycho.
All the "good news" luvvy duvvy stuff is I think something of a recent invention/desperate marketing attempt to call folk back - most having lost interest in the vicious drama queen.
