I with admiral and for the first time ever when I renewed 4 months ago the renewal quite was 10% cheaper than a new customer quote in their website and in line with the cheapest on the comp sites. Snapped their hand off.

I would lodge a complaint with the Ombudsman. They will have to justify such an extraordinary increase. I have never heard of a jump that high.

Renewal cost is not the only rant
Insurer paying up on a claim is our main issue.
Eventually got my iPad back last night after 6 weeks!
2013 model with a cracked screen, thanks to the dog
Simple claim, provided all the information and the iPad but kept being asked over again for info already provided.
First insurance claim for around 30 years!
£100 excess too so probably a waste of money as the iPhone been used instead.
Goodbye Direct Line, will be taking our home, landlord and car insurance elsewhere

Had the same with Mrs Cs car insurance this week - renewal quote was £800 - quick shop online found something half that. They wouldn't shift when presented with the alternate quote either so DD cancelled and a new one set up.

No one has to have contents insurance here either, its just that people are usually fairly sensible and prudent.

One for you switchers - I'm thinking of doing the same.

How did you estimate your rebuild value?
It’s unlimited on my policy (Aviva Plus) as is contents pretty much!
any other random Aviva policy (old pension, life insurance etc) will get you a discount too 👍

Last year for contents and buildings insurance we paid £341. At the time we didn't think it too bad and it was the cheapest of the quotes.

This year we had a renewal offer of £448! So back onto the comparison site, and just got identical cover for £169. Added bonus was that with our old one (Tesco) it was not on auto-renew, so I had the pleasure of not phoning them back and going through 97 menus to get them not to rob me for the next year.
