Yes but I'm not talking about crushing the seatpost. I'm talking about the forces inflicted by the weight of the bike hanging down at an angle from it. Different type of damage.
I can't see the weight of the bike hanging on the seat post doing any damage to the frame unless you are hanging on to a big bar trying to undo a tight BB. But for normal routine maintenance i can't see a problem.:okay:

I don't have a lot of faith in carbon seatposts following on from #47 above

I am no structural engineer, but if the concern is where the seat post meets the frame, then surely the seatpost material being carbon is irrelevant - as the bit you really don't want to damage is the frame - i.e. the seat tube?

One is supposed to use an adaptor, like wot this is, to support a carbon frame in a clamp.
