Importing foreign culture is fine, as long as it runs alongside our existing culture rather than replacing it, as appears to be happening with some aspects of language. Jamaican music and Asian food are two examples of what I mean. They haven't killed off British music or food.

Whereas some americanisms are taking over.

You know those flat, round bready things - muffins.
Those large cakey thinks like overgrown 'cup cakes' - they are called muffins in the US. Over here, it is these things that should be called American muffins, leaving the bready things with their original name of muffins.

NOT calling the cakes 'muffins' and calling the bready things 'English muffins'!
