Cycle Crazy
I just came back from a 1 hr training ride and moaned about the gusts and headwind. It slowed me down and confused my effort levels on a route I do daily.

Unfortunately my colleague who I told (who is even more mad about cycling than me) looked out the window rather puzzled - no evidence of wind visible.

But it is there.
It's hiding

Horrible. Worse than riding in the rain, IMHO.

I guess if I rode my bike to work I'd just have to grit my teeth and get on with it. But for a pleasure ride, no thanks.

smpw drifting across the road and pretty strong winds are great fun! so if riding into a VERY strong head find with rain and hail lashing it down! all good training i say
Cheers Ed

Approaching perfection from a distance.
Cycled to the gym this morning into a strong head-wind, along the coast road which runs parellel
to the cliff top, so very exposed and nowhere to hide! :surrender:

Supposed to be part of my training run, but could only average a tad over 18mph for the 4.4 miles, whilst my heart rate average was 162bpm! :heat:

Ride home was a breeze, but it's impossible to make up the time you've lost, so average was well.......pretty average.

I hate the wind!

On the positive side, windy conditions are good for beating personal bests on uphill Strava sections:thumbsup:

Assuming you plan your route, of course!

My very first Charity Ride, 70 miles, had a horrendous headwind for the entire return leg. It was a total pain and it zapped me.

About to set sail home right now.

I don't mind the wind, guess I'm used to it riding a motorbike, but, I always select the route that doesn't give me a headwind on the last section when I know my legs will be running on empty anyway. A headwind sure saps the energy levels.

Just keep the same power output both ways, simples.

Must admit C I have never had it that bad, living in the Flatlands it can be a bit draughty. 4mph is about the lowest I remember and 35 on the way back.

A guesstimated 60-70 mph headwind was my record, experienced when I tried cycling into a tunnel which was funneling the wind from a Spanish gorge. I got blown backwards off the bike, which then turned into a kite and took off!

I gave up and rode back to the hotel with a massive tailwind to speed me on my way ...
