Second recommendation for the Charge Grater 1. Love mine. Single chainring and 8 speed cassette so pretty cheap to maintain. Only thing I did was chop a couple of inches off the handlebars as they were exceptionally wide.

That grater looks a good option, single speed. Wife is 5' 4" do you me asking your height and frame size
If it's any help, I'm a smidgin over 5' 3" and ride a small Grater.

Go to the newly reopened Edge Cycleworks (flooded during storm Desmond) in Lancaster and have a look at the Trek FX range. Perfect for what she needs by the sound of it. Tell them I sent you:okay:

Ten mins from me in BLS. :okay: They were always pricey. Will drop in this week. Vanilla bikes have opened a shop in Carnforth now for accessories and the like too. But limited on bikes

Now that is a good recommendation. Hydraulic disc brakes, 1x9 drivetrain, 28C tyres, and it looks bloody lovely too!

I don't think Whyte know how to make bad bikes.
My wife has one for exactly the same reasons as the OP. Loves it to bits.

Just be aware that clearances aren't huge so you can't go up a tyre size and also fit mudguards, if that was important for you, but it's a lovely ride and has rekindled her interest in cycling.

I nearly bought a Saxon cross last year but decided to build my speed and fitness on a Single speed before going the full road route again.
Trouble with the whyte carnaby is no one has any stock local for her to try. Not been a cyclist she really needs to try first.

Popped into wheelbase today and wife had a look at the whytes, carnaby female specific was out of stock and new stock not due till late August. Checked out the Shoreditch and it was only 2cm longer top tube and 13mm stand over height so not much difference really. Wife tried it out and had a few spins round car park. Really liked it and so a Whyte Shoreditch will be collected this week !!
