Little lad is flying now on his Isla bike and wife can't keep up with him on cycle path. She has borrowed a bike a few times from her friend and would like a bike so she can take him out when I'm away.

Flat bar so hybrid type, light weight because she is only ickle  the usual £400 mark and all the test ride gumf don't matter, firstly because no one offers a 'proper' test ride and secondly because it's just for going out with little.

Sooo looking for reviews or advice from people who have them and recommendations for quality choices to look at. We will be going to look at the usual suspects at halfords but also have an Evans in Kendal, wheelbase as well

Definitely prefer a hybrid or maybe road. Not the mountain bike route and the decathlon choice she erm.... Said....erm I'm 36 not 56  her words not mine
She has never ridden bikes since been a child so not sure how she would get on with drops on a racer as per jefmcg suggestion.

If you have a road bike and little moobs is only going to get faster, maybe look at a flat barred road bike, like they sell at decathlon? If she enjoys it more than she expects, it could keep up with her if she takes to road biking.

Canals and cycle paths only. She is too scared of cycling on roads and traffic. She is not really a cyclist but is more than happy on the canal paths and cycle ways with me or young lad.
Back if the motorbike is only time she is on a bike in traffic ^_^

I bought my wife a Giant Liv Hybrid for under £300 from Rutland and it's fantastic for the money. Really light and sturdy. My mechanic borrowed it as his wife was looking a bike too and they ended up getting one too!

??? I have no idea what the association is between decathlon and old people. The only person I know personally with a Btwin is 21. But just to be clear, i meant something like this (hence "flat bar")

I think she was referring to the Hop 520 link as it looked a little old fashioned and not decathlon. As I like the triban and when in Spain sent her a pic of a pink and blue one on display. Crossed wires there Jef, the above Btwin is the sort of thing we are after or even a singlespeed

Don't bother with the Pendletons in Halfords. Mrs FS didn't like the twistgrip gear changes and barely rode hers. Cant keep her off the Spesh we replaced it with

I have a Charge Grater as my local, short journeys, cycle path and popping to the shops hybrid bike. I mostly bought it because it looks so cool! (Fashion victim!) It is great to ride as well. They do a cross bar and a mixte version.
I also like the Specialized Sirrus - a friend has one and it is great fun to ride. The female version is the Vita - not ridden one but I expect it is also good.

That grater looks a good option, single speed. Wife is 5' 4" do you me asking your height and frame size

I'm also 5ft 4. I chose one with gears as everywhere in my little town is on a hill! I have the cross bar version, frame size small. I got mine from Wiggle - there is nothing more exciting than getting a mahoosive parcel with a bike in!

Thank you, I used to live in Yorkshire but near Kendal now. I only ride single speed but I doubt the wife would take on the hills on one with me. They look a good choice at moment. Will check wiggle out. Thanks again
