Here's my gaspipe Falcon, dating from the late 70s or early 80s, currently in use as my errand and around town bike.

Paint and set-up is very not original. I converted it to a fixie in 2007, and gave it a rattle-can paint job to resemble the 60s era Falcon San Remo I yearned for in my youth. Made the decals myself too, though they bear as much close inspection as the paint

After a moment of novice-fixed-riding-incompetence led to a broken wrist I quickly decided that freewheeling is one of the great pleasures of cycling, and modified the Falcon accordingly.

Flat-bars and dia-comp brakes a were added over covid, because I wanted to use the bike around town a bit more than I had and that requires an ability to actually stop that seemed beyond the original pull-and-pray Weinemann side-pulls.

Haha ... if only. Though I suspect the frames are probably very similar.

The only pre-paint pic I have of mine is attached. Definitely older than yours judging by the decals and colour scheme. I guessed its age based on the headbadge – foil, with Ernie Clements signature – so after '78 and probably before '83.

I got the frame given many many years ago it does have some very eighties garish decals, the paint it's self is very good and rides amazingly well for a cheapy .
You did a great job on the repaint with yours looks a big improvement on original.

I’ve not done much riding in the last 12 months or so but after a few rides lately I thought I’d see if my legs had a fixed century in them still. A good fewer mph slower than 2 years ago but it was quite hilly and I’m definitely not as fit. I’m running 44t -16t 700 x 28 so just under 74”. I’ve not experimented with different ratios but I’ve not had to walk any hills yet and have reached over 35mph downhill.

Nice one, I'd have to look back to the 1970s for my last fixed century :becool:

Slightly different single speed, it's a 1985 Raleigh Courier , just to satisfy my curiosity I replaced the 590 three speed hub wheel with a 559 single speed wheel to see if it still has the fun factor but still retains it's original character and it does, not as nimble as something lighter but still great. It has proven to be a very practical, simple machine but with an enjoyable twist on this type of bike.
