Why is it recommended to refit the tyre next to valve last?

seems easier to fit the tyre by the valve first to me. nothing in the way when your struggling to get the final bit of bead over the rim then.

I always fit the valve first. Seem's to work much easier that way.

valve first for me too - but folding tyres are a pain in the ass to fit first time around

Always done valve first. Who's recommending otherwise?

Usually valve first is easier, especially with narrow racing tyres, but sometimes with wide but tight fitting tyres valve last gives you an extra mm or so to get the tyre over the rim lip.

I always do the valve part first- that way you can ensure you get the label centred over the valve as per rule #40, that and it's easier not so tricky.

Read the OP people ! I Think some of you are talking about the inner tube (which obviously is fitted valve first) whereas the OP asked about the tyre.

And the answer is that the last bit of the tyre bent on is the bit most likely to pinch the inner tube when 'snapped' over the rim, and doing it at the inner tube valve means you can use the valve to push the tube up into the tyre reducing the likely hood of a pinch. Also if the tyre is tight, the inner tube bit with the valve makes it harder for the tyre beads to sit right next to each other in the centre well, as the valve is in the way, making bending the tyre onto the rim harder. I've always fitted tyres valve last, and have no trouble lining up my logos either!
