Why do my triban's brakes lock too much?

Pulling the brake levers too hard is the most common cause of wheels locking up. The harder you pull the front brake, the more the weight transfers to the front wheel and increasing your chance of locking up the rear. Try reducing your braking pressure but start braking for things sooner.

I've upgraded the tyres on my T3 to some pretty pukka folding Rubino Pros and have just sent off for a pair of 'Clarks' brake blocks and holders (with an extra set of blocks apiece included) for a Tenner each. Although I have yet to experience any sort of catastrophe from the stock brakes I will let you know if and how much they improve the braking.

Certainly - braking 'from the hoods' on a road bike seems much less certain than braking on an MTB with a decent set of V's and pads....but I reckon this is pretty much par for the course and a different 'anticipatory' technique is called for.

Once you get over the thrill of having tyres on your T3 then I think upgrading them is pretty much mandatory. The stock ones puncture if you look at them funny.

Rainy ride home today, brakes were absolutely useless - no braking power from them at all, will be getting new pads ASAP!

I'm quite the novice when it comes to biking. Only been commuting for the past month. My front pads for my T3 are in need of replacing.
Is it just the case of buying some road bike break pads? or does the T3 need specific pads?

I've been riding off and on all my life but road bikes are new to me too........my only concern when ordering some replacement pads (and holders) was whether I should be buying 50, 52 or 55mm length...........and no-where on the web explained the difference! (unusually).
So I just sent off for some Shimano Compatable 55mm blocks. (Campag brake pads ARE different apparently?)

If mine don't fit for some reason, I promise you'll be the first to know!

hhhhmmm............my super-duper 'Clarks' triple compound arrived yesterday and I fitted them in about 15 minutes. Then I read all sorts of articles about 'toe-in' and the optimal placement of pad against rim and spent an entire evening tightening, loosening, angsting and fiddle-arseing about with them.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing!

I finally decided that the Triban 3 stock brakes where not sufficiently precisely engineered enough to cope with them and went to bed in a fit of depression!!

At work until dark and misty today so still have no idea whther I fitted them correctly enough...or indeed whether they are any good.

It does no good to obsess over these things I know...but I am just a wheezy anxious guy.
