I assume it's because you're in primary too early and travelling at 5 mph

After major training, change of diet, vitamin supplements, shedding of unnecessary heavy clothing  and the acquisition of a bike fitted oxygen tank, I now can do effortlessly 10 mph on the flat.

The road stretch is only about 100 meters long!

Doesn't seem like you're doing anything wrong. I think its envy, I know when I get beeped and flashed it's because how good I look, couldn't be me slowing cars down or being in the way. I know this because I don't exist on some of the roads I cycle down!

If there's any more trouble from these numpty drivers Pat"5mph", tell them you're nearing 1000 posts on CycleChat which is as near to cycling hardcore as makes no difference, that'll shut them up.

well I post less and I am still slow... maybe I'm a really fast rider in some other dimension.
And no I can't see that you're doing anything wrong. If the cars go so fast that you can't manoeuvre safely nearer the junction then that's their problem.

One word of advice would be to just.. ignore agressive drivers. Blank them completely. I find it REALLY ANNOYS them. They are looking for a response like those bullies/chavs from your childhood. I have a bike camera for my commute and when i have had problems with people shouting at me I have one weapon they don't have.... Video evidence. But seriously they are only wanting a response.

Pat, your 100% correct with your positioning, don't change a thing with your approach on leaving your estate or work place.

You're doing everything right as far as I can see. It probably is that everyone is just impatient..... or perhaps you do have plenty of admirers.

All I can say on that score is that I had problems with drivers lurking behind me for ages on country roads all last summer. When they did pass they all turned out to be women. Probably just coincidence.

Question: an I a numpty on a bike? - with a driving license to boot

On exiting my housing estate, the road splits in 2 ( directional arrows on the road): after about 100 meters, traffic lights. Left lane only turns left, right lane only turns right. I need to turn right to join a dual carriage way, where I need to stay on the left for a couple of Km.
So, on exiting where I live, I join the right hand lane in primary position, until the lights, after the lights I stay on the left like a good girl. Am I doing this wrong, as I often get beeped if a car wants to reach the lights to turn right, but I'm in the way? Where should I be?

Also, on exiting my work, same scenario, only this time the markings are even clearer: my work is in a coul de sac, you enter a one way road, 2 lanes clearly marked all the way as left if you want to go left at the exit junction lights, right if (like me) you want to turn right. I get beeped there too.

I'm away to wash my hair, expecting a flood of "you are a numpty" replies on my return.
Don't forget to state the reason of my numptyness, so I can change my ways

The other night I got beeped at by a taxi driver as there wasn't enough room for him to overtake me. I related the story to my OH and said "What did he want me to do?" OH says he wanted me to press my Harry Potter Night Bus button!

." I have a bike camera"
I wish I'd had one on Friday, in the space of a mile I met:
two road triangles sticking out into the (narrow) road, two sheets of hardboard, two lorries parked on double yellows, a car reversing towards me on an off road cycleway and a white van parked on it. I'm afraid to say I banged the side of the white van..

I find the best reply to any toot, comment or shout is to wave maniacally with a stupid smile on my face for far too long. Riding a recumbent trike makes this easy and so far no one has stopped. If/when they do I'm ready with:- 'Oh! Your not my Aunty Alice, she has a car/van/truck/motorcycle/invalid carriage/insert name of conveyance just like that!'
