Played football till I had to give it up at 40+, due to arthritic hips. I then piled on weight and needed a low impact fitness regime to correct matters. ;)

Getting more and more fed up with commuting by using the Tube and not happy with my cycle fitness, (used as alternative to running). Talked to colleagues who commuted by bike and then I moved offices, (nearer to home), and Cycle2Work was offered. Now cycle commute most days and currently cycle more than I run. Still have lots to learn but is all part of the enjoyment.

For me , Sobriety . Was given a bike in November but was admitted into rehab so it kind of just stared at me . The winter was bad and i kept making excuses not to use it . Anyway 2 months ago i took it out for the first time and it blew me away . Had'nt been on a bike for 30 years and it was quite a revelation . Have now past the 30 mile mark and still cycling my way to sobriety .

For me it was that I'm sat in an office for 9 hrs a days and am the wrong side of 40.
Didn't like the unfit blob I was becoming but couldn't face jogging so looked for somthing with less impact on my joints.
We have Cyclescheme at work and a group had signed up the year before for a 55 mile charity ride that sounded like great fun.
I bought a nice hybrid on the scheme from my local bike shop and have just bought my 2nd bike. Road Bike like everyone seems to once they get the bug.
Love it more and more and can't wait for the summer to come along and be out riding in the warmth on a summers afternoon here in Devon.

I used to have a great car and a rubbish bike. I then sold the great car (still don't know why) and bought a rubbish car.

Rubbish bike was getting intolerable, and was using it more and more. So I bought a good bike. Then wondered why I was using the rubbish car, leaving the good bike in the garage. So decided to stop talking about saving the planet, and doing something myself. So now I cycle in any day that I can.

For me,s returnee after 30 years of inactivity (if you don't count golf as active),its
great to be back.
Its a sport you can do at a moments notice, gets you into a great community and keeps you healthy.
Brilliant.
Now on third bike .Built one and had my old dutch racer from 87(which is now a winter bike.
