When my 4 year old granddaughter asked when the baby was due? :bicycle:

One of ther best decisions I have ever made. I commute 40 minutes each way at least 4 times a week and love it. Get out of bed and I am looking forward to the ride into work, then I spend the working day looking forward to the ride home.
Turn out of the gates look up the road and my smile is so broad I can use my teeth as a bug catcher.

Primarily financial for me...started in my mid to late 20s, had a young family and little money.
The biggest spark was being given an old but reliable Carlton 531 some time later, that rekindled my love of 'racers'.
The majority of my riding was purely commuting for a good few years, then in the last 10 i've taken to longer, faster, fitness rides for the love of it.

After 20 years off the bike, retirement, expanding waistline (over 18 stone) and quitting smoking, I had to do something. Found my Ridgeback at a bootsale for £30, and ride several times a week up to 30 miles on average per trip.. Still retired, still a fat old git, still stopped smoking (just over 2 years now), but happy on my bike riding with no real aim and no real pressure.

i got a job that was only 5 miles away, so it seemed silly not to cycle as taking the car would leave the wife without it and small children to ferry around, plus as i used to enjoy cycling it seemed a good way to start again.

i now have 4 bikes, moderate a cycling forum and belong to a cycling club.

it's a slippery slope, but a great one :bicycle:

My trousers were too tight and I was too stingy to buy new ones so I rescued my bike from underneath a load of junk in the garage, pumped the tyres up, oiled things and off I went.

What do you mean "start again" - I've never stopped since I started cycling to school at about 7 years old

Kids came back from youth club one day about 2 years ago and said we're going to do a JoGLE.

Bought my eldest a bike off ebay - it was old enough that my knowledge gleaned from Richard's Bicycle Book 30 years ago was still adequate to overhaul it.

I started to go out with the kids on some of their practice rides, and spend time & money doing up my own bike which had languished almost unused in garage for years.

JoGLE is now set for August 2010, and I've been co-opted by the youth club as one of the "responsible adult" leaders.

After getting a nasty achilles injury that stopped me running for the best part of a year, decided to get back on the bike as an alternative to the gym. Got myself a road bike under the C2W last autumn after huffing and puffing on my cheapo mountain bike. Really enjoying it (although must admit I've stuck mainly to the gym and running over the last couple of months with the cold weather). Am running again, but going to include some cycling in my general attempts to remain semi-fit and plan to get the bike back out in the next week or so.

What I most enjoy, is that you can go on a bit of a journey on the cycle (whereas there are limits to how far you can go running) which makes it seems less of a chore as you take in the surroundings etc.

Got a bit carried away and am now plucking up the courage to try my new clipless shoes after falling over at the first attempt:wacko:)

Kids started a new school which was too long to walk to. Gave up the car so wife could do school run. Couldn't afford a second car.

Left me with a train and then a bus journey to get to work. Didn't fancy this as previous experiences were nightmarish. Being held hostage to those monopolistic train companies and their odd timetables.

Considered cycling but was put off by distance and the (unavoidale) busy roads. Then got talking to a bike commuter at work who did same distance but from another direction. He's about 15 years older than I. Thought if he can do it, why can't I.

Did a few weekend dry runs. Never looked back. Would not buy a second car now even if I had the money.

I gave up smoking 2 months ago, used to smoke 20 a day. On sunday 25th jan at 4pm i had my last cigarette. With the money i'm saving (nearly £300 a month - the mrs has given up as well) i thought id buy a bike to get fit, so off i went to my LBS and bought one on 0% over 12 months. Best thing i've done in a long time, wish i had done it years ago!
Rather than being addicted to the evil weed, i'm now addicted to cycling - i love it! I have already noticed a difference in my health, no longer a constant smokers cough and im cycling longer and faster as each week goes by, i try and get out every other day and both days at the weekend. I bought my son a new mtb at the same time and we go out together a couple of times a week, and the mrs got her new bike last week as well.

Oh yeah.... i'm already looking at my second bike......

Can't run due to injury, and cos I'm so strapped for time I kept missing the organised mountainbike rides. Realised the biggest danger was getting too unfit to do anything so got myself a road bike so I can pop out for a few miles whenever I've got time. Now just gotta shift those extra 10kg from my belly (more than my bike weighs)! :hyper:
