Probably because you know what Cheltenham is really like under its retired colonel facade.

Having the biggest council estates in Gloucestershire, The only people who think that nowadays are those who are unfamiliar with the area.
Hesters way is officially described as one of the most deprived areas in the UK and had the first ASBO in the land issued there/here.

Don't worry - it's sensible. Every now and again I consider leaving the rear light attached or the pump etc. then I just remind myself that for the sake of saving 30 seconds effort, it could cost me £20+ if someone takes a fancy. How 'nice' the area is has very little to do with it IMO.

I forgot my bike lock today:ohmy:. Fortunately I store it in the quad in the middle of the building so hopefully it should be OK. And I leave the pump and seat pack on.

I've stopped taking things off my bike when I leave it now. Luckily most of the time it's in a secure location (in the house or in the work secure underground carpark) but even when I leave it on the street I don't bother removing the bits 'n bobs. Luckily none of them are expensive (tesco torch, a couple of rear lights, cheap bike computer), but none of them have been nicked yet.

Two Abus Granit locks through both wheels and frame for me wherever I leave it.
I always take my pump, lights and computer off even if it is for a couple of minutes.

Once someone stole my wireless speed sensor off the fork on a French train....hardly very useful.
