far[/I] too pissed', then staggered around the room depositing a bottle of very good champagne on each table before disappearing back into the kitchens. A true one-off, and in the best possible way.

Met him in the Horseshoe bar in Glasgow twice. Always goes when in town and claims it's his favourite bar in the world. Mentioned it in interviews a couple of times. He was very funny indeed!

Floyd is a legend, but I prefer Heston Blumenthal, just for his whole mad-scientist/bonkers yet genius approach to food!

The best food I have ever had in the UK (apart from the the local Lindisfarne mussels that are now coming into season, cooked simply in white wine, garlic and parsley  ) was at Raymond Blanc's Le Manoir Aux Quatre Saisons - my wife and I had lunch there (no way we could afford to stay!) just before we got married. Whatever you think of The Restaurant, he knows what he's doing with his own place.

That's a good tip. It's Mrs R's 30th birthday just after our 1st wedding anniversary next year. I can't decide whether to go for Le Manoir or the Waterside. I dare say that neither will disappoint.

Dribble.

 As I said - a legend. The Ramsays of this world take themselves a bit too seriously, don't you think?

No not at all at his level it is very Serious. If you are pushing to be at the top of your game it is very hard work and if you f**k up it could cost you your reputation......

That is one of the reasons I got out when I did being a Chef cost me (losing friends, not seeing my kids......) and I had a chance to move upto the next level but after 10 1/2 years I needed to get out and get my life back.

Bill Granger (who? I hear you ponder - http://uktv.co.uk/food/item/aid/576954)

Very light and very fresh Australian food, his was the only restaurant we booked before we went to Sydney.

HFW has turned into a brand, Ramsay a franchise (LHR T5 would you believe), Oliver a poor politician, and although I admit to liking THB they are just a comedy act.

I can't tell you who my favourite one is?

I don't like Gordon Ramsay, All that swearing makes me think he must be inadequate in other areas, and he is trying to cover that fact up!

I am a bit suprised to hear he might be having an affair (with a woman) I always thought he was Gay!

I'll go for Fergus Henderson; whilst not a TV chef as such, he is very occasionally on the telly. "Nose to Tail Eating" is a good read too, although not exactly a source of straight-forward recipes.

I tried to watch nigellas prog and had to switch off before i puked- all that finger licking and little girl looks to the camera- yeuk! Don't know his name but the guy who does the saturday morning prog on bbc1 comes across as a fairly normal person. Just out of interest- how many people on this site use recipes from "the stars" often? I quite enjoy watching them but very rarely get round to using any of the recipes.
Its easy watching tv i suppose, just as a side note- i have been to mexico and texas and enjoyed the food very much but the best fahjitas i have ever had (and still do regularly) is using discovery brand dry spice mix! What a heathen

Anyone remember Graham Kerr , The Galloping Gourmet?

Ah yes the guy that used to grab a good looking girl from the audience to share a meal with him at the end?

I think Phil Vickery is the best at holding a whole show together i.e. he can present and cook at the same time.
