who else is snow bound and can't get in to work this morning ?
I was in two minds whether to risk a 25 mile drive through Somerset to Taunton but have just heard the A303 is shut for 10 miles around Ilminster .
I'm going to lose a days wage but my village is impossible to drive through as we are perched on a steep hill

Be careful out there peeps

Hi Peanut,

We've failed this morning, we live in Coleford, Somerset. Mrs Speck set off for Frome this morning at 6:00 AM but had to turn around and come back home. She's made it every day this week but yesterday and today they haven't salted the roads. I've been over to South Wales a couple of times this week no problem with the snow once I have got out of the village but the traffic is so busy as drivers aren't doing their usual "rat-run" and are using the main roads.

Coming down fairly heavy here on the top of the Mendips and it has been lightning.

We come from Buxton in Derbyshire and they have over a foot of snow but everyone goes to work as usual.

Personally, I would stay at home even if you are confident in driving in the snow, it's them others.

I live just off the seafront in Burnham on Sea. We've got a couple of inches. I've made it to work all this week and hope to get out on the bike to get to work later today. None of the roads in town are gritted. We've still got some salt in the bin opposite the house. I'll spread some around the county.

Well Mr Summerdays made it around the edge of Bristol yesterday, but wished he hadn't gone in and it took a very long time. Today he is still in bed!!! And as the schools are shut I'm home with the kids but I will go out for a ride later... just to test myself with the conditions (good to practise when it doesn't matter if I give up and go home).

Having battled in all week - yesterday I got in to an empty office: it was the worst commute I've ever had - today I'm working from home. The forecasters are clearly doing their best, but I feel like tossing a coin to decide whether it's going to snow again here!

For some bizare reason my school is still open (3 inches of snow and still falling), but I have jsut walked down to the edge of the estate to look at the main road, which is a hill, and its gridlock with cars sliding all over the place. So I am staying at home, and will go on the turbo whenever my sister wakes up and then go sledging:biggrin:

I made it home this morning (somehow, there's much more of an imperative to get home than to go to work:biggrin:), but the last ten miles or so between Ross on Wye and Monmouth were very dodgy. I spent ten minutes stationary in a queue of lorries which couldn't get up the hill for lack of grip, and then took it very slowly all the way home.
I might not go to work tonight, it's still snowing quite hard.

Stuck in the Chilterns. Inter-Site transport cancelled, went out to catch the bus, but waited 50 mins and no buses in either direction. Now sitting in office on wrong site, whilst all my patients (if any of them manage to get in) are on the other site. Just waiting to see if any transport gets going later in the morning

Has just stopped snowing here, and from the radar on RainToday it looks like the worst of it may have passed us now.

Couldn't get my car out of the drive this morning until I realised I'd left the handbrake on! Managed to get to the swimming pool at 6:30 but then nearly couldn't get home.
No work again, middle of nowhere on an old airfield an impossible to get to in snow - hurrah, more fun with the kids and snow!

Mrs and Miss C are both snowed in at home for the second day running (I don't have to travel to work, fortunately). Oxon's roads are largely impassable and chaotic.

get to school young' un and be glad of the opportunity... sheeeeesh demn kidz!

I can't - we will just have a crash, and I can't walk as it will take me two hours (6 miles) and mean walking along the roads and so I would likely get hit by a car. Also I doubt many teachers are going to make it in so there isn't much point really.

I'm wondering how easy it is to cycle in wellies and fleece lined rain coat. Should I wear cycle gear underneath or just go for lots of jumpers?

6 miles, in my day we had to get up before we went to bed, eat gravel from road for breakfast, be thankful if our dad beat us to death and .... demn kidz!
