Me, Me, Me, Me, Me!!!

Did the Round the Isle of Wight route today and the wind was horrendous.

I had to actually get off and walk at one point. It was however Downhill heading towards an s bend on a really exposed bit of coast, was being battered by a cross wind that the met office were indicating was gusting up to 35-40mph. Bike was so skittish and was so worried about coming off as I went down the hill that I decided the best course was to walk a bit.

First time I've had to get off the bike on a ride.

Still the dead straight descent into Niton with the wind dead behind was a hoot :biggrin:

I've discovered a route which is exposed to the wind in one direction only along one, long eat-west leg of the route only - so when the Westerlies come on really strong, I love to cycle to the western end of the leg and see how fast I can get going east! The return journey is across the wind and sheltered by buildings. I shall be doing that tomorrow, if the insane winds that have been forecast are blowing in the right direction! If they're sou-westerlies, they're no good.

I got blown off my bike twice yesterday going up Honister Pass in Cumbria. Nearly came a cropper doing Newlands pass on the same ride, but managed to stay on. There were reports of 50mph cross winds on the passes.

Did 65miles, but felt like 165.

Crikey! Windy down here too, but only a couple of stretches that were really hard. 57 miles today, felt about right. I don't think anyone likes wind, but TBH it's a part of cycling so I just suck it up and don't think about it too much.

I don't mind the wind too much, if it only happens now and again and blows itself out. However, it has now been blowing very strong here for about 3 weeks without any respite, and the forecast for the next 3 days is for it to get even STRONGER . Coupled with the heavy rain and cold temperatures we have been getting, it has not been pleasant.
As for cycling in it; I would rather sit in the house TBH. I cycle for the enjoyment, and I don't enjoy getting wet/cold/blown away. I am trying to avoid lining the Chancellors pocket by buying petrol, but a nice warm dry car is just too tempting ;).

I blame global warming! Fifteen straight miles on an A road on Friday before I could turn off... it was like being on a different planet when I turned left. (The 'it's good training' line kept me going for about a mile)> :surrender:

A short ride (25 miles) this morning in the gusty wind, but I don't enjoy longer runs feeling like I'm balancing on a knife edge, with someone flicking the knife from time to time. Instead I went for a walk up on Dartmoor, where it was so windy at times I struggled to stand upright. At least if I had fallen over, I'd have just fallen onto grass, rather than into the path of a vehicle.

The Met Office forecast suggests that there will be winds gusting up to 30mph during the daytime every day till Thursday down here. Tedious.

Me.

Killed any chance of me making the time in my first Audax last week when i turned into it at Alston and basically rode all the way to Silloth into it.
Now I've got a forecast including 69mph gusts tomorrow

I don't know what it is about winds, I dislike them in general but sometimes they are completely debilitating and other times just hard. The met weather station at the west end of my ride said the wind was 38mph and the gusts were 63mph! yet I still rode 115miles, yet I've seen myself really struggling in 15mph winds over shorter distances.
