Which will we reach first; 100,000 threads or 20,000 members?

As a matter of interest, Shaun ...

Is there a size of membership beyond which you think our 'community spirit' might start to suffer?

The feel of BikeRadar (215,000 members), for instance, is much less cosy. As for BikeForums (226,000 members) - that is so huge that I gave up using it because I just felt lost there!

I think a steady growth to 30-40,000 might be okay, but I wouldn't really like to see CycleChat++ with 100,000+ members.
really? I don't get that impression from looking at the site. it seems sparsely populated. And boring, although that's a matter of taste......

On any message board, there is a huge difference between registered members and active members.

The relative progress to target is the same for both (99.84 %) right now.
If the increase in members and the increase in threads over time are both proportional to the number of active members, you'll get there at the same time !

Less political debates, more know how by the experienced, more cycling adventures or misadventures, more bike renovation project pictures would certainly add sparkle to CChat. Some members come across so ethereal, like they've never been pushed in a mud puddle by a taxi or got oily hands from fiddling ... like they ride 100 miles on an exercise bike in front of bbc news 24 ^_^

It's a bit more complicated than that...

750 threads in CA&D, 27,000 in the caff, 70,000-odd in the rest of the place.

Just saying, like.

Less than you might think, IIRC. Maybe a few thousand?

So somewhere in there, spire had written Das Kapital, Andy in Sig had written Kierkegaard and dellzeqq had written Proust. And I'd written the entirety of Shakespeare.

Cool.

Aye, but the threads in the caff are "real" (ok, real silly chit chat mostly), while the ones in the CA&D you can't even read for information, one never knows what's true, made up, just posted for controversy or for showing up ones cleverness. A challenge for the regulars in CA&D: to post at least once a week in the thread "how was your ride today" and to answer a beginner's/know how question once a month.
That's the bits I like to read!
