What is GT85??

I'm never without it- a great general lubricant and water displacer. Also spray it over the bike after cleaning and it will look almost as good as new!!

Thanks. Will WD40 do the same job as I think I have some somewhere, I don't want to spend any more money on bike stuff!

I'm sure WD40 would be fine for the lock, but when you run out you might give GT85 a try instead. It's a great general bike maintenance spray. But keep it away from the brakes and use a dedicated chain lube.

Oaf on a Bike
Quick question to the other Granit owners - my seems to be getting a bit more difficult to open, sticky if you will - gave me a bit of fright the first time. Is this normal - the bike has been left in the rain but not for more than a hour. Seems to be a bit of rust on the ends - is it ok to loosen up the mechanism with some WD40?
I dont know if this is at all related, but mine was incredibly hard to close at times and i thought the lock mechanism was beginning to fail, annoying after spending 20mins outside a shop trying to lock it up. Anyway, the rubber sheath that covers the U part of the lock can move/stretch a little and stop the U part going 100% into the block, then the key wont turn easily. Probably isnt the case but thought id mention it, seeing as i was contemplating replacing my lock in fear of it seizing somewhere unfortunate.

If it's just a lock body I would steer away from the thinner freeing agents like GT85/WD40 as they tend to strip lube out of the tumblers or pins and just put a drop of plain old weldtite bike oil in the lock mech, if it's got dirty or picked up gunge then by all means give it a blast out with WD40/GT85 but be sure to pop a drop of actual oil in there once it's dried.

It's at this stage that someone will tell you that if you have tubular key that it can be "opened with biro!"

This is untrue in most cases, it was only one model of cheap tubular lock barrel that suffered from this and it was largely only kryptonite that made the mistake of fitting it to some otherwise very good quality locks.

Most tubulars are pretty much unpickable.

Does anyone have experience with Kryptonite and their 'anti-theft guarantee'? It is a substitute for theft insurance?

Their website appears to be down so can't check the fine print.
