Where did you sail from ?

Frederikshavn in Denmark (I think the port might have changed now). Sailed to the Faroe Islands and spent two days there while the boat went to Norway and back and then on to Seydisfjordur on Iceland. I think there is also a boat from Scotland (Aberdeen?) that stops at the Shetlands on the way.

Most places you visit seem expensive, cos you go to the most obvious places. Knowledge and a bit of research can help tho... Me and mrs f and 3 sprogs had a slap-up indian meal in london last week for total £40 (+ fiver tip)

Norway in general.

In Finland, wines and spirits are sold via state owned shops called Alkos.

The largest Alko in Finland is in a small village called Kilpisjarvi in the far north of Finland where the Finnish/Swedish and Norwegian borders meet. All the car registration plates in the car park of that Alko are all Norwegian as they are nipping over the border to Finland to stock up as it's cheaper than in Norway itself.

There definitely used to be one in the eighties anyway, that stopped at Shetlands, Faroes and Reykjavik. Very limited car capacity.

Think its stopped now. It was part of the North Sea cycle route.

Most expensive place I've been - stick a pin somewhere in Norway. Beer £8 / pint.
