Buying for the summer is fine if you buy in the autumn on a good deal for the following summer. Buying in the spring for the imminent summer is just a waste of money.

True ... my friend at my LBS was saying how difficult it is to get complete bikes, but they can get frames OK and build them up ... Shimano gear sets are in particularly short supply he said.
A pal the owns a large bike shop would normally have about 300 sold for Xmas by now, shortage of stock means it is a third of that this year.

You'll be very lucky to get a discounted bike now. They cant meet demand so wont be discounting.
Look on Ebay and Gumtree and Facebook marketplace for a secondhand bike, but even these tend to be going for higher than usual prices at the moment.
