No criticism of your photography intended, GA. Even if it doesn't swell towards the top, it's a blooming horrible building. A bit like an airport control tower on steroids.
I rather like it. Given the constraints of what and where it is, it is at least a bit other than purely utilitarian.

Here's the local "Secret Bunker".

Now a tourist attraction it was intended as a seat of local government for the North West in event of a nuclear war.

It is situated in the middle of a totally rural setting.

Is this in Lewisham? And the multi-coloured thing in the previous post? I seem to remember that being in the news for someone bring murdered outside it or something in the last week or so.

Yes. People are often murdered in or around Lewisham, though it might be hard to pin the blame on the architect of these monstrosities, my gut feel is that they are contributing factors.

One giant bulldozer, one weekend. I'm available at no charge. Just sayin'.

Derby.
They're finally demolishing the disused Derbyshire Royal Infirmary, and with it Wilderslowe Tower, the former nurses' residence - one of Derby's two tower blocks. Because nearby Wilderslowe House is listed, they're having to pick at it with a gert big crane, rather than blow it down with explosives. Bah!

As you were talking about Patternoster Lifts a while back, I thought I'd mention that Sheffield University's Arts Tower still has one - in fact it has the largest one in Europe I believe. When Miss Up was smaller I used to take her on it in university holidays as a sort of budget fun fair - she liked the view from the top floor.

The Arts Tower itself if a bit steel and glass to be truly 'brutal' but it was almost certainly designed by someone using only a ruler and a pencil.

Trinity United Reformed Church is the single most unwelcoming church building I've ever seen

"Trinity U.R.C. was opened in February 1971. It presents an apparently uncompromising facade in the Neo-Brutalist style: because it is at the rockface, facing Endcliffe Park, it represents the cliff of faith. Inside, the concrete block house is surprisingly attractive - simple, sensible, dignified. The architect, J.M.M. Jenkinson RIBA, was a member of the church. There is another surprise - the church of 1971 is attached to a hall that was built sixty years before."

You could survive the rapture in that bugger!

I was in town on Sunday morning, and got a couple of photos of the empty site now that Northampton bus station rubble has been cleared away. I do think they mistakenly blew up the wrong erection as the multi-story car park I took the photographs from is quite vile.. (but still standing)

I'm not sure what the intention is with the site now.

This photo is of the old 417' Express Lift tower in Northampton, saved from demolition a few years ago, and now surrounded by a housing development on the old lift factory site. It's now used for charity abseils etc.

The Chron site is planned to be an Aldi, as if we need another supermarket in the town!

That's fantastic! Is it really curved or is that just photographic distortion? It reminds me of the wonderful lighthouses on the French Atlantic coast.
