What's this ... not a 'Brooks' or a Sun - Carlton?

Having missed this 1940's Rochet last week, which went for £33 as I was too busy to bid, I decided to have a go on something else:

Rochet:

Termed a 'Brooks' I haven't a clue what it is:

Nice lugs:

Any ideas before I start hunting when I collect?

With the wrap over rear stays the words Carlton , Sun or maybe Falcon come to mind , more so Sun due to the positioning of the head badge holes .

Either way looks nice and will keep you busy

I would've have though 70s Carlton Corsa or similar but for the head badge holes. Any sign of a frame number?

shame about the Rochet, I thought that would polish up a treat.

Were you not tempted by the Merlin/Bob Jackson also in Hudds?

I just love those centre pull brakes.

If you love centre-pull brakes then you clearly never had to use them to stop at the bottom of a steep descent in the rain... DAMHIKT.

Picked it up yesterday from a charity shop that specialises in house clearances. Looks intact, headset stiff and a bit of paint under the bottom bracket. There's a frame number D3640 and the Brooks saddle but nothing else:

I've had 10 minutes on the bike. It's not a bronze coloured Sun - the paint's a respray as the colour is on all the cables, etc. Under the grey tape it's primer and red metallic elsewhere. As well as the code on the LH dropout there's an 'X' underneath but no other markings. Rear wheel's a Rigida (think is original), cranks are Continental with a MilRemo stem (not tried to move this yet).

What makes me think it's European is that the brakes are set up the 'wrong' way round. There's a number of French parts on it as well.

The only clue I've got is the seatpost and rear wheel hub bolt are the same:

Also there's metallic red paint on the inside of the seatpost which, now I've got it moving, means I've a bit of interest in finding out what this is:
