At the risk of repeating someone's post, shouldn't the thread title be what is the half-life of a jar of 2011 home-made chutney?

I found a jar of November 2011 apple chutney at the back of a cupboard today. It looks like Marmite or possibly, bitumen.
Would you still put it on your mature cheddar?
p.s. This thread was inspired by Crackle's equally interesting query.

Put it back it has not matured yet, It will be at its best 2021ish

When I find food that is 6 years old it goes in the bin . It has never entered my head to actually put it in my mouth .
WHY? if the lid hasn't popped then it cannot have gone off. It may have lost flavour but it cannot have gone off. I am presently eating a jar of tomatoes I dehydrated in 2012 and bottled in olive oil. Excellent flavour.
