I've still got a small stockpile of Krylions :surrender:

I like plain old continental grand prix tyres, they're not bomb proof but I usually wear out the tread on them before they become puncture magnets.

I can't say the same, but maybe I am not as fast at accelerating or taking bends or braking as hard.
They may well have changed since - I'm no powerhouse myself, but I spun the backwheel starting away from lights, and standing to climb a hill - something I'd never, and have never done with any other tyre before or since, I lost all confidence in them (shame, as they rolled pretty nicely).

The GP4000 is a nice enough tyre, but for me, it doesn't have the feel of the Michelin tyres I've tried (Pro Race 2, Pro Race 3, Krylions) which are just bloody lovely.

Had great results with Schwalbe Durano. No punctures in 3000 miles, great in the wet and a great fast rolling tyre

This - I will choose Schwalbe's Durano plus over gator skins every day of the week. I've been massively impressed with the performance and the difference in grip in the wet over the gatorskins is unbelievable.

I had a Bontrager R1 (needed a tyre after one died in Wakefield end of 2012), thats wasn't great on slipy roads, previous to the gatorskins I had the Ultra Sport these were forever puncturing, the onlt thing I havent ridden the gatorskins on is snow/ice as we haven't had any since I started using them last Aug and there may have been a couple of slips in none favourable conditions (mud/leaves ect.) but I don't recall too many as you say they roll well I have just gone upto a 25mm rear from always been on 23mm (hopefully this will give a little bit more protection to my rim/spokes) I personally can not tell much difference

Just been out towards your direction this morning on GP4000S and punctured. Second time in as many months. Was using Durano Plus before and got 7000 miles out of them only puncturing once right at the end of their lives when going over freshly cut hawthorn.

Love the extra speed and low rolling resistance of the GP4000S but they are definitely not very tough. Was going to go up Little Glenshee but first spare tube was faulty, second ok but didn't want to risk carrying on without another spare  I think the Durano Plus will definitely be going back on at the end of the summer.

Always found GP4000s good tyres. 1 puncture in two years. I favoured Pro3 Race before these but would wear them out quite quick. But I reckon it's probably 50% the tyre you chose and 50% vigilance on the road and how you look after your tyres that are key to longevity.

It's very possible that the compound changed - like I say, it's a good while since I had my set. FWIW, I found conti's recommended pressure was spot on.

Touch wood I've never had a problem with the GP4000s tread for p'ture resistance but practically every tyre fails on the side wall first :-(

Do they? Thinnest I've seen are 25s that I've got on the commuter. For 23s, I'd say it's difficult to beat Durano Ps.

I dont have your experience, whilst there is a slight scuff on one (front I think, thats how slight it is), for me it was rubber started to peel, after previously mentioned stone.

hi all
im looking to change my tyres on my road bike I have got continental ultra sport tyres on there at the moment and had 2 punctures in as many rides or is it just a bit of bad luck and carry on with these tyres?
No, I used to have a pair of Ultra Sports. If I failed to spot broken glass until it was too late, it was a case of count to 30 and thank your lucky stars if the tyre was still inflated (yes they really are that bad!) Specialized Armadillo Elite are good but expensive.

I do wonder why I still buy conti's I've had too many get a side wall rips, making them a right off well before the wear indicators disappeared. The cheapest wired Grand Prix's were even worse, a complete false economony one them failed on only its second ride and its replacement didn't last much longer
