So was I! Just wanted to see if anybody else said the same. I would use the phrase "bike shop" very loosely in that they sell (sort of) bikes. As for service.....I'm guessing Halfords but don't really see any need for secrecy. It's hardly as if anyone was ripped off, cheated or treated badly in any way.

Now do you want the R1158 or R1172?"Chainset? Sorry, I thought you said train set..."
I would if they sold the component parts.Well then that's probably a bit unfair. They will cover a huge range of things for sell, only partly bikes. They then have bikes for sell and probably know how to do that. Components will require a large amount of product knowledge which is most likely not cost effective to train various staff in knowing. They will have technicians who probably do know but they wouldn't be on the shop floor.
If I go to John Lewis to buy a washing machine I wouldn't expect the staff to know the name of component parts if I wanted to order one.
But I wouldn't expect the person wandering around the salesfloor to though.I would if they sold the component parts.
If you google Chainset you get the same results as crankset.![]()
What is?More results for chainset (536K) compared to crankset (463K).
