What would you rather take the family to see, a game of football or rugby?

I remember years ago going to Upton Park and seeing the likes of Trever Brooking play. It was a great time for British football and the likes of Brooking were gentlemen of the game. Sportsman young people could look up to and adore. Never shouting or pushing the ref, a true football hero. Obviously, in the days, football was a traditional working class sport and was priced accordingly. These days, you would need to take a mortage out to take the family to a top football game. Especially entry into the ground, programme and food with drinks. Just too expensive. On the other hand, a rugby game is far better priced and a better atmosphere to take the family with young children with players kids can look up to. These days, most of these football players are not role models. In fact, if they were not playing football then I'm sure half of them would have criminal records or serving a bit of porridge! Which, is a great shame! For me its rugby all the way. Its funny, more and more people are getting interested in rugby and the youth teams and club sides are growing in size. Do you really think these top flight football players are worth their wages? I just can't see how its justified!

I am a recent convert to Rugby but still love my footie. I take my kids to both league footy and rugger. I find that the atmosphere at Rugby matches is far more congenial and family-friendly.

Uesed to watch rugby of the league variety when I was a kid and loved it. My PE teacher played on the wing for a rival team which made it interesting when they played. It only cost £2 to get in in the mid nineties. I live in Leicester now so I'm stuck with either Leicester City FC or some rugby team calling themselves the tigers? I'll have to plump for a local nonm league team. My eldest daughter does football training and has started getting interested in it when it's on the telly. The kids occasionally watch NRL on setanta with me too so they get to see someone run with a rugby ball.

When I lived in Cardiff the atmosphere on a Six Nations day was fantastic. When the FA Cup Final was on it was like a ghost town with the shops boarded up...

I finally packed in the footy this year, too many jester hat wearing, "who are ya?" singing numpties for my liking.

BRING BACK THE TERRACES!! and the 80's while we're at it.

Both worth a shout IMHO. LCFC top of League 1 and Tigers are not doing too bad. You can also watch the Tigers' Development XV for free.

I'm quite fond of 'The Tigers' as well. Read the sig.

They groundshare with one of the rugby league clubs. Football gets twice the crowd, and more than both of the local 'superleague' clubs put together. Hull is not a rugby town.

I wouldn't take the family to either. I've never been a rugby fan and football spectating is a man's/boy's hobby. Women ruin it. On the whole they aren't really interested in the sport. They only go along with a man, mainly in the role of limpet girlfriend or newish wife, never on their own or in groups of women.

I attend matches in the family stand with a boy/boys and have sat in the same seat for a few years. All the boys in the stand get ever more interested and aware of the game as the years go by. The desperate dads who take daughters have to put up with their children growing up to spend ever more of the game texting, phoning people up or playing with the phone in other ways, taking their hair bands/ribbons/clips in and out continuously, going down into the stand every two minutes for god knows what reasons or attempting to start non-football conversations with them while the game is actually going on!

Football. It'd be a pretty mean run down the hill to Bramall Lane if I were a united fan. Whizzing past all those parked cars . I don't think footy is completely family unfriendly.
