One of the things I love about the DS is the features it had that are billed as innovative now - swivelling headlights for example.

Renault Alpine A110, they look a bit odd but always liked the style.

I seriously doubt they count as vintage but if I ever buy a car again Id love to have an Austin Metro. I've had about 4 of them in my time and have found memories of all of them.

Modern cars roomier ? Ever sat in an Austin landcrab or even a mini for the size of the outside they are way bigger on the inside then anything new. Insurance companies consider them safer because percentage wise they are involved in far fewer accidents so premiums are much lower. I am not in the position to have an old motor now but would always recommend one as a second car. i miss my A35 with its 40+ mpg and would have the van version tomorrow

Fast and careful!
Not every ones choice,I always make my way to these at piston heads shows, the LANCIA DELTA HF INTEGRALE EVOLUTION ,I tell my boys these will be around for ever ,while today's cars will hold baked beans in a few years

Saab 93 2 stroke
Ford Escort Mexico (type 49 avo)
Lancia Stratos
Porsche 911 in Martini colours
Lotus Cortina mk1

sure i will be adding more later

Isn't Vintage pre-1920?? (or some such date?)

Anyway, I think it'd have to be an AC Cobra

Although, the 289 is the far prettier car, for sheer brutish power/acceleration, it'd have to be the 427SC

Even though the originals are 40 years old, or more, they'll still show the modern super cars a thing or two.

Ignoring the Cobra, perhaps an original 1970 Rangr Rover
Vinyl seats, no radio, no power-steering, 4-speed box, rubber matting & the best V8 sound of all four generations

I would save my money. Modern cars are safer, roomier, more economical, with better performance and hugely more reliable.

Only a half-wit would yearn for a 1950s top loading washing machine and mangle, so why do people go misty-eyed over sixty year old cars?

Of course your logical is impeccable. But where's the fun in that?

An old car is not simply transport, it is a time machine that can transport you back to another age (yours or someone else's), usually when the sun shone and life was so much simpler and better.

Earlier this month there was a vintage car rally that was climbing the col du Galibier at the same time as me but going the other way. As I neared the top through falling snow I was astonished to see a vintage 4.5 litre Bentley of the 1920's looming towards me. It was like seeing a ghost. They returned my wave with a couple of blasts on a klaxon.

I'd have one of these:

I used to see one from the bus when going to school..

Alternatively a 2cv of this era like the one my father drove us in from Cyprus, up Italy, over the Alps and across France to the UK. Those Alpine roads were terrifying but we made it..
