Was that the film with Emilia Clarke? I had that on in the background whilst writing cards and didn't engage much with it. So the massive plot twist was a huge surprise ; made me wish i'd paid more attention!

Before that i saw 'Wham at the BBC'. The recordings of dodgy miming on TOTP took me right back to my teens. Much of it was pure fluff, but the GM solo stuff and interview snippets was interesting. I might pull up a Spotify playlist when I'm cooking later.

I watched that. I came away with a much increased respect for George Michael.
By all accounts he was a very generous and thoughtful guy, who was ultimately hounded by the press and struggles with fame.
Andrew Ridgeley is a good guy too. But he knows he was very much a bit part player and never over played his hand. The generosity of George Michael, to give him joint writing credits has made him a very wealth man.

Very late to the party on this one, but I've been watching Life on Mars. With one episode to go in the second series I'm loving it and can safely say I don't think I've seen anything quite like it. Very cleverly written and darkly hilarious.

The wife and I quite enjoyed Life on Mars. I usually enjoy watching John Simm play his parts, and the show kept my interest both in the "1970s cop show" and "weird SF series" modes.

Unfortunately, Ashes to Ashes wasn't nearly as good, and I mostly gave up about a third of the way through, just occasionally auditing episodes while the wife was watching them. She was underwhelmed but made it through to the end.

Just started watching Pennyworth, a Batman prequel / spinoff concerning the early adventures of Alfred and his association with Wayne Snr in the years before Batman.

Just the pilot episode this far which is a very well crafted bit of filmaking and close to perfect execution of "show not tell". Without giving too much away, the age of the classic cars shows it is set in the late 50s / early 60s, a printing press churning out union jacks embossed with a raven introduces the Mosleyite fascistic baddies, and a few shots of London makes it clear this is set in an alternative London very different from our own. Alfred is an ex-SAS soldier working as a bouncer but aiming to set up a security firm, and by chance encounters a young Thomas Wayne ... and we're off on the adventure.

Anyhow, whilst we are latecomers to this series, it is looking really promising, and keeps a comic book feel of series such as the excellent Gotham, or the other dystopian alternative London story, Vendetta

Anyone looking forward to series 2 of SquidGames on Netflix starting 26th December ? I’m the least “TV” watching person of all time. But I’m genuinely looking forward to it…….
