I have been catching up with Top of the Lake - a very intriguing and beautifully directed disappeared-child mystery set in New Zealand. It has certainly held my attention, but it is a little melodramatic. Holly Hunter reprises her stony-faced mystery woman schtick, and Elizabeth Moss gives a lovely nuanced performance, yet again.

I really enjoyed that and a new series starting very soon
I'm sure I watched this about 5 years ago, I can't remember the storyline, but remember the scenery and setting in the first few episodes looking pretty idyllic. have you got to the end yet ?

switched it off after about 15 minutes, just seemed utter rubbish
I struggled a bit with it , it's going to be a weird one..the first one was .

I'll see after the next episode

The Cul De Sac, series 2. I thoroughly enjoyed the first series in which a town full of kids and teens have to cope with no tech and no adults.

Orphan Black, series 5 is certainly packing a punch. I thought this would tail off after the first (excellent) series, and it did a bit, but the writers have put it back on track very successfully.

I'll give Top of The Lake series 2 a look. The first one was excellent.

I've also enjoyed the first three episodes of In The Dark.

Yes, I watched it all and thought it was really good. There were aspects of it that I felt didn't work so well, but even given that, it was still head and shoulders above the usual TV detective genre pap.

Well I couldn't disagree more, but then I like the work of Jane Campion and Elisabeth Moss. Even Nicole Kidman, who isn't my favourite actress, was brilliant as an exasperated and exasperating mother. In the first 15 minutes you couldn't possibly have got a true idea of what was going on. You have to be patient and work at it a bit, as the detectives do, but perhaps you prefer stories that are more straightforward from the start?

Indeed, I think it will be very good.
I do hope Australian men aren't like the men in the show...if they are then Oz is a very sad place ..

Did anyone else notice the car she was driving?

In one scene she drove away, a while later the number plate was completely different.

I would not normally notice such things but for some reason had clocked what year the car was, and noticed the change later

Top of the lake season 2 tonight 9pm
We watched this and enjoyed it but then wondered if we'd missed anything in series one so we began watching that tonight as well. For the first time ever, we're watching two series simultaneously. And it's great!

Only a couple into this compelling documentary series about young men in the last chance saloon for a crack at the NFL. Well worth a watch from both a human and sporting angle, tragedy and supreme athleticism abounds.
