Wolf Creek concludes tonight, and I've the penultimate episode set up to watch before the finale. Can't quite decide about it for some reason...

It's impressively savage, capturing the Australian outback more effectively than anything I've seen since The Proposition. The story is plausible, given the size of the wilderness, and the violent scenes neatly punctuate razor sharp tension. The main cop is played by Dustin Clare who was Gannicus in the Spartacus series, though he's been hammering the barbie and VB by the looks of things!

But the creator has done all this before with the two films, so I'm left wondering what the point is? Not one to treasure, but certainly relish if you're a horror fan.

And now that it's done, I'm still left wondering what the point is, since
it's been left open ended for a sequel series, as Taylor has managed to survive. Again.

I did like the tie to the original film, with the only (known) survivor popping up as a lunatic, shame they didn't use the same actor.

The Onion is reviewing one Luke Cage episode a day;

(This is day 2; http://www.avclub.com/tvclub/luke-cage-avoids-respectability-politics-goes-emot-243559)

The author does a better job than my hamfisted review did of explaining why the setting, and the way the characters fit into it is important, I think (and I suspect has a far better handle than I do on how authentic the portrayal is).

Note that the reviews do assume that you've watched, so there are spoilers.

It is good - I do wonder how interesting an invulnerable character can be long term, but given the number of these properties that Netflix have done very, very well (including the best on screen Punisher yet) I'M confident.

One thing I do like is the feeling that it's located in a somewhat different milieu to Daredevil, Jessica Jones et al because of the ethnicity of the characters - there's an effort, I think to locate them in a distinct culture to the other characters.. 1 1/2 épisodes so far for me.

3 in for me and I'm enjoying it so far. It Has a sort of 70s blaxploitation vibe for me, cracking soundtrack too - very Wu-Tang, which is never a bad thing!

Intrigued by a book review in the Grauniad I found myself watching part one of Civilisation by Kenneth Clark on YouTube. Really enjoyed it.

A fascinating 'of its era' piece, tho' strangely kind of not of its era, given that it was at the tail end of the egalitarian '60s, yet was the most unashamedly elitist piece of tv you're ever likely to see. None of yer cultural relativism here, mate: a snaggle-toothed self-professed spawn of the idle rich (as Clark himself described them, 'Many richer, few idler', according to the Guardian) spelling out the values of Western Greek-Roman-Christian culture as the undeniable expression of the heights of mankind's achievements. But undeniably beautifully filmed (at a pace and with a lack of commentary that would be unthinkable today) and, taken at face value, rather wonderful.

And yes, I do plan to watch the other 12 episodes.

M*A*S*H

Have watched it on and off for over 40 years. Every now and then, I think about getting the boxed set on DVD so I don't have to put up with adverts and the laughter track, but then I think twice along the lines of "but it's on tv virtually all the time (True Entertainment) so I'll save my money".
