My downstairs neighbour sits in shorts and flip flops with the window open and complains about the cost of electricity to anyone stupid enough to listen to him. His flat is like a blast furnace . I have an idea how he could reduce his bill...

Be glad that he is your downstairs neighbour, as hot air rises! Friends of mine live above a pub, and it's like having underfloor heating free of charge. Luckily for them the soundproofing is good.

I have an ancient boiler in the bathroom which doesn't let me set a temperature! I just turn it up or down to suit.

I have a thermometer in this room and aim for a reading of 19 degrees in here. That is at waist height. The temperature has only got up to 18 degrees today though so I will crank the heat up a notch when I go upstairs in a minute.

This room has a freezing cold cellar directly underneath it so the floor is probably only at 6-10 degrees!! I wear doubled up socks in the winter and always have my feet raised up on a stool off the chilly floor. I have also had a throw over my legs today.

My daughter moved house and her new place is on a slope so there’s an " underbuild " under the kitchen that's used as a utility room with washing machine etc. you can see the joists and the underneath of the floor boards. I have suggested that she get it insulated, it's easy access and wouldn't be too expensive.

As with @Drago my thermostat is in the downstairs hallway which the coldest part of the house and is currently set at 14°C. By keeping the living room door closed, it's showing 20°C in here at the moment.

We would like it at about 19 or 20 ideally. However, the whole downstairs is open plan and the conservatory has a crappy plastic roof so loses a lot of heat. Also our front porch doors are bent and need replacing, so don't seal properly. We have a lot to do to make it more efficient but can't afford it yet. So at the moment it gets to 17 and won't really go any warmer. We try to not have the heating on unless we're really cold, like now

Solid fuel heating here, ergo no boiler and no thermostat. Heat is controlled by how fast I shovel logs into that gaping maw LOL

I also have storage heaters.

No mains gas out here in the boonies, and I've no safe / discreet place to put an oil tank. Underground tank is a no-no, as the fen soils expand and contract too much thanks to the weather, and so that would fubar any joints in pipes.

I usually try and keep the house at 17C downstairs and 15C upstairs.

Never had central heating and I find it too hot.
I just have gas heaters and I use the gas fire but just on an evening really. Its currently 13 in the front room. Its warm on a night here with the fire on.
I have an electric oil radiator as well but don't use it. When my Mum was here, the gas/electric bills came in at around £330 per month last winter!.

mine is set the exact same temperature , i have tried to sneak it down lower but find it too chilly what with my reynauds .We do have cavity wall so the heating is not on constantly even when its really cold.

MrsPete is prone to upping it into the low 20's sometimes but I soon drop it back down again 😂

We had a new boiler last November, it came with one of those fancy Google Thermostats, which is very good you can place it where you want in the house, it's currently in the living room set at 19 deg for getting up and evening periods inbetween it's at 9, depending on room temp it switches on the heating at different times to achieve the setting temp at the set time.
