Fortunately it was super-cheap and after a thorough assessment, I’m in to around £250 of parts to bring back to a presentable bike, it needs a lot! But there should still be a profit in it.

However the good news is that it hasn’t had much use, just abandoned and dumped in a garden! it is very rusty but I’m confident I can sort all that out. The tyres are the originals, they’re not cracked and hold 80 psi, the main frame although faded is not that scratched, so my plans are to strip it right down and sort the frame out first. It’s going to be a big job!

Although it is in a sorry state at present but I think it can be salvaged and turned into something good. Bit of determination and elbow grease should do the trick…good luck 😀

We almost have a complete bike, just cabling and chain to fit and it’s done!

Brompton want £20 for an inner and outer gear cable and the inners with the small nipple are not available separately, so I made my own by filing down a standard gear cable (done it many times before) I also fitted the replacement levers (off my 2011 Brompton) and the correct pre-2012 grips which used to be unavailable, but now back in stock. That’s now enough for the day, I’ll try and finish it over the weekend.

The only thing that I’m not happy with is the rear mudguard, the top is very scratched, so I’ve ordered a new blade, they’re only £15, and as it is so visible I think it’s worth the effort.

All finished, fitted the cables this afternoon and the chain, realised the front wheel was in back to front so I refitted that, plus checked it all over and torqued everything up. Unfortunately the weather is so horrible here I didn’t get a chance to road test it.

The only remaining job is to fit the new rear mudguard blade but I’ll do that absolutely last thing, as I don’t want to scratch it.

I’ll ride it for a few weeks to iron out any bugs and then it’ll be up for sale.

Total costs (including the bike) was £520, plus I’ve estimated I used another £65 worth of stuff I already had in boxes in the garage. So an expensive restoration but I’m very pleased with how it’s come out.
