What is "normal" bar width?

I just read this thread. Can I have my time back please?

FWIW I use 44cm bars on my two road bikes and 40 cm bars on my fixie/singlespeed. Hate the bars on the fixie, cos they're uncomfy? No. Cos there isn't enough real estate to attach my usual kit to without looking cramped.

The only norm for handlebars I've seen is http://www.uci.ch/inside-uci/rules-and-regulations/equipment-165067/ article 1.3.012, so anything narrower than 50cm o-o is normal.
