I set off and thought that it was strange because it didn't really feel much different. It took me a while to realise that I was thinking that it didn't feel much different to my other road bike - the one that it did used to feel different to!

I'll take a tape measure to the bikes tomorrow and see how close the setups are now.

Here is the bike with the flipped stem.

I am not super-tall (1.86 m or 6' 1") so my 58 cm frames are the size normally recommended for my build, but looking at that a 60/61 cm bike would probably fit me with a normal length stem (vs the long one on the bike above) and a bit less exposed seatpost.

You keep off Craig vale!🤣🤣

I went DOWN Cragg Vale yesterday. That picture was taken from High Stones Rd above CV.

Absolutely no uphill TT on CV yesterday into that wind!! Might be good today though...?

What might have suited you (as a runner) though was Canalathon. Saw multiple entrants on towpath at HB. Some looked incredibly fit. One poor guy looked like a zombie having a very bad day!!!

Got me thinking, I actually moved from a 61cm frame with a 130mm stem to a 63cm frame with a 110mm stem and the fit is great, with much less exposed seatpost and the saddle to bar drop has also fallen substantially.

There is some comfort loss I think with the seatpost being shorter as it has less room to flex over bumps but the fit is otherwise just as good.

My bike started off on 23C tyres, then it spent years on 25C, but last year I realised that it had clearance for 28C. I was taking new 28Cs off my Devon bike to be replaced by 32Cs so I brought the 28Cs back up here and fitted them to the Cannondale. They have made the bike much more comfortable as long as I run the rear at no more than about 6.0 bar and the front at 5.5.

Running 32C tubeless with pressure at 65psi front, 70 rear - which is really low given I weigh well over 100kg - so tyre pressure already accounted for

Ah, yes - not much scope for further reduction there!

There was a concerning clicking noise from the from the front wheel when I braked hard. The brake is a cable operated disc brake, I assumed there was something up with the pads.
I got the bike on the stand and removed the front wheel and brake pads.
The pads were fine and so was the rotor so I turned my attention to the hub. There was play in the axle and clicking when I held the axle and spun the wheel.
I decided to strip the hub, fearing I would find a pitted cone or hub bearing surface.
I was pleased to find everything looked OK and after cleaning and reassembling with fresh grease it's all good now.
