There was a concerning clicking noise from the from the front wheel when I braked hard. The brake is a cable operated disc brake, I assumed there was something up with the pads.
I got the bike on the stand and removed the front wheel and brake pads.
The pads were fine and so was the rotor so I turned my attention to the hub. There was play in the axle and clicking when I held the axle and spun the wheel.
I decided to strip the hub, fearing I would find a pitted cone or hub bearing surface.
I was pleased to find everything looked OK and after cleaning and reassembling with fresh grease it's all good now.

That worked on a headset last week.

You feeling lucky!

Review please when you have done a few miles?🤔👍

Doubtful, the bike is off for sale. But for the, what, three hours a week for six months of riding they felt secure, didn’t get punctures and weren’t unusually worn when I passed them on. More than adequate for the £20 each I paid for them.

Ride on the nice bike yesterday after work, noticed a pronounced hump in the way the front tyre rolled, it had been slightly evident on Monday but I brushed it off as in my head but was far worse yesterday and over a longer part of the rotation.

Looks as though the rubber and casing have started to separate, tyres are three or so years old and never had a puncture or any issues so can't complain at all. I had planned to replace them this spring anyway but haven't so far and not seen an obvious reason to so laziness had set in. They're set up tubeless so chances are I could have got away with it for longer but the bump is noticeable during riding.

Can't leave it any longer so replaced both front and rear (rear had a noticeable wear mark on the centreline but still some life in it) and replaced with some Vittoria Corsa Pro Controls I had bought to replace them. Then needed to clean the bike as new tyres just made it's unclean state far more noticeable.

Got it done in my lunch hour - including cleanup and washing of the bike, so not too bad.

Given the relatively decent weather, I took the road bike off the turbo, felt so light compared to the Specialized Tero hire eMTB last week even if I do miss its motor assistance already!

Shuffled the Selle SMP Extra saddle to a more central point in the long rails, pumped the ~27/31mm measured tyres both to ~85PSI for my current monsterous weight of ~97Kg and tweaked the saddle angle to give ~14mm between the two peaks.

All good on the short test ride, shame I still feel battered from last Weds, when I launched the pathetic bazookas up three hills totaling ~21mins for ~1000 feet climbing while also using turbo assistance.

I had something similar happen...

I have just had a tyre start to break apart from the inside. The first thing I noticed was a bulge in the tyre. I didn't actually notice it when I was riding but I suppose if it had bulged in a different direction I would have.

I couldn't see anything with the tyre deflated until I flexed it (3rd photo) when the damage became obvious. The rubber was intact, but the carcass of the tyre under the rubber was broken, where that kink is between the red pen marks.

Clearly a less common failure mode in tyres, but significant nonetheless. It was fairly evident when riding - a clear lump in the rotation of the wheel, so much so I knew what I was looking for, once the tyres were deflated though the lumps went away so definitely delamination of the tread from the carcass. I think it would result in rapid deflation if left unfixed, which on the front tyre could be dangerous if the circumstances were right.

Indeed! I scrapped the tyre as soon as I noticed the bulge.
