Got my seized pedals off the crank arms!
I always wondered why Rolls Royce turned me down.

@Vantage - a bit of glue and I'm sure they'll be fine

Last year when I 'finished' the fuschia Raleigh I received some criticism over using non-aero vintage brake levers. Maybe not from here but certainly from a certain retro bicycle forum for resto-modding instead of returning it to 1993 Campag Record. Harsh imho as they were 1960's drillium.

So, as I'm now starting to be able to do minor things - although not two full groupset changes I've got prepared - the Raleigh has been taken out of storage and received a pair of Dura-Ace aero brake levers. Those things are difficult to find reasonably priced!

Bar tape un-wrapped, levers removed and replacements fitted, cables shortened, bar tape re-wrapped as it was just two rides old. Also the levers were lifted and tilted in as it's the only way I can ride currently. I also took the opportunity to add a matching pair of Elite Ciussi bottle cages with shiny bolts:

I still need to source a rear Dura-Ace 7900 brake for the full groupset and some matching skewers but overall I hope it looks and rides better. Paint, or more probably nail enamel, will be sourced shortly for the big chip on the other side of the top tube.

At the weekend, fitted new tandem rack to the roof bars.

Not difficult, but a total PITA with about 25 bolts to do up.

No fettling today. But there's been a fair amount of recent fettling.

MTB I bought from a forummer turned into a winter bike - I had it ready just after the last frost.

One of the seat-stay rack bosses was well stripped, so that's been bodged with some epoxy. I ran a few errands bedding in the studded tyres with various loads and it seems secure enough.

The Trek District 4 had a rear tyre / mudguard interface issue.

Turns out the wheel had moved forward in the drop out, so easily resolved. Noticed in the process, the rear tyre is shaped like it isn't seated properly, but the bead is right where it should be. May swap that back tyre out when the hub gear needs its next service.

The gravel-cum-winter-road bike got a kick stand cut to size and fitted, to make trailer towing duty a bit easier:

And the £50 project folding bike (Carerra Intercity) got a good clean, a couple of new cables, new chain and a new cassette. The only thing left to do is adjust the headset. Turns out there's a threaded steerer hiding under the seat tube, so I need to acquire the appropriate sized headset spanners, after which it will be good and serviceable:

I'm really pleased with the way that folder cleaned up - it was utterly filthy when I bought it. The brakes were completely non-functional too. Quite scarey how people ride their bikes without fettling them or getting them serviced.

Been out to the garage to check all my chains look legit*, having watched a GCN video recently on counterfiets. I bought three from an eBay seller - second hand but BNIB. Seller looked legitimate. Sure enough, those chains, another I bought from Amazon and the one supplied originally with the Ribble CGR have consistent chamfering around the edges. The Felt Broam still has it's original chain fitted, but that one is 105 so I can't really compare it with the others.

Whilst I was there, I thought I'd see if the Ultegra Di2 still shifts after a winter lying dormant. It seems not.
Put the system on charge and will test again later. If not, I guess I'll be changing the shifter batteries. Fortunately I already have spares. About time I figured how to change them.

*I'm making a point of buying all my stuff direct from legit Bike shops from now on. I tended to anyway - the only exceptions being chains and tyres. And the last tyres I bought from SJS anyway.

Shifters on the winter bike are from my old commuter and have done roughly 30k miles but are starting to miss shifts the paddles just swing freely. Washed them out with some WD-40 and then dried them out with the compressor. I'd managed to find some Finish Line foaming spray lubricant for the job and sprayed it into them to relubricate the spring.

Seems to be working now, back to reliable shifting.

Soooooo...following on from my new motor and it's chain line woes, I have rearranged the cassette so that 2 smaller sprockets are behind the 2 largest sprockets which moves them forwards a bit resulting in a much straighter chain! Yay! I've also solved the slipping gears issue. It wasn't the chain wheel at all. The chain was indeed slipping off the cassette sprockets because the gears weren't indexed correctly because frankly, I'm a f**king idiot :giggle:
All fixed and running sweet now ^_^
