Finished the Brother Allday: installed brake cables, adjusted the brakes, bodged the bar tape, attached the pedals and did a 10m test ride in the basement.

Edit: Fixed the slanted valve on the front wheel.

For the "Burton" - A pair of wheels out of the cellar (32h Mavic Open Pro on Dura Ace) and fitted 28c Panaracer Pasella tyres (used on the retro bike in last years Velo Retro) and a 7 speed 11-28 cassette (used on turbo bike during lockdown).

On the "Burton" - Drive train after 18 months commuting in Edinburgh was kn*****ed. Swapped the chainrings on a Sora triple chainset from 52/42/30 to 48/38/28. The chainset is unused and was given to me by a friend who swapped it from a new bike, chainrings from the spares box.
Fitted chainset to the bike with a new bottom bracket set. Also added a pair of 8 speed down tube shifters from the spares box.

All before Mrs G woke up :laugh:

I prefer to mount front lights on the fork crown where dynamo lights usually go- I have a hatred of cluttered handlebars. For battery lights, this seems an unusual location, so I usually have to jury-rig some arrangement to make it work. Doesn't always work perfectly though: my front light went bouncing down the road the other day - it survived fine but somewhat battlescarred..! The cause was a fairly shonky bent steel bracket I was using to mount it on the fork crown. The bracket was acting like a spring, allowing the heavy light to bounce around until it liberated itself...

I found an aluminium bracket on aliexpress that looked like it would be more suitable, which turned up today. This is it fitted. Seems nicely made and a neater visual fit. Everything is much more rigid, so here's hoping. I've still had to cobble together the actual light fitting- this is a male Garmin mount stuck and zip-tied to the light. Not particularly elegant but it'll do until the proper Ravemen bracket I have also ordered arrives. There is a tiny remote control button on the handlebar so I can change light settings without shoving my hand into the front wheel...

Put a new tube on the rear wheel of the new toy as the old one seemed to be losing around 10-15 psi per day and I couldn't find anything in the tyre or hear/feel a leak in the tube. The tyres it came with (30m Schwalbe Ones) were also swapped for a pair of 32mm Vittoria Rubino Pro IV to try them out.
While the wheels were off the frame, I also removed the disc pad retaining bolts and replaced them with split pins instead.

Drive train sorted on the Burton.

Friend had given me a Tiagra rear mech and RSX front. Couldn't get the rear derailleur set up. Added/removed links, wound in and wound out the B screw just couldn't get the top Jockey to clear the large sprocket. Found a Sora mech in the parts bin (with sloppy jockey wheels) and swapped them for the ones on the Tiagra. Fitted and worked straight off.

Puzzle game procrastinator!
I dug out an old fan to be used for used during my future virtual cycling sessions on Zwift etc. For some reason I had taken the plug off it in the past so I found a spare one and put that on. A test reminded me that the fan is quiet and fairly powerful, but I may need to double up for energetic Zwifting. I'll probably buy another fan next time that I spot one on special offer in my local Lidl or Aldi.

An experimental fettle that I didn't think would work but has. The 30mm Schwalbe tyres removed from the new toy (see above) were fitted to my Triban flatbar conversion just to see if they would fit - they do and with just enough clearance to still allow the use of Raceblade Long mudguards.

Cleaned the Vitus 797 I picked up earlier today. That's all I can do at this stage given I've only got one working hand. It was quite dusty and dirty and now looks a lot cleaner (seller's photo as it's dark).

Everything seems to be working fine, however the Superstar Components Nano pedals are coming off.

The 9-speed Shimano Tiagra/105/Ultegra groupset probably doesn't suit this bike, so it may become bits and re-built. Not sure yet and I'll work that out once I'm able to do stuff in a few months.

Also, it needs a full decal set, which I'll have to source. The paint's OK under the dust/dirt but the metal parts are quite dull. A solution for that is needed.

Dropped forks out, cleaned and greased headset and re-assembled. Swapped the stem for a shorter one, fitted new bars (Ergotech City Cruiser), needed a 26.0>25.4 shim, and the original brake levers and grips. Part fitted original mudguards and brakes. Not enough clearance for 28Cs so got the wheels out of my bikeability teaching bike (with 25C Schwalbe Marathons) and swapped the cassettes. Added the front brake cable.

I've been using my fixed wheel as my winter commuter, on a mix of rural A roads and muddy, potholed lanes, and it had got absolutely filthy as a result. In addition, the 23mm slick tyres weren't really up to the job, so I put the thing on the stand a few weeks ago to give it a good clean and a service, and put on some 28mm tyres I had kicking about (which, it turned out, wouldn't fit under the mudguards). Inevitably, it morphed into a bigger project as I decided to build a better quality back wheel for it - something I've been meaning to do ever since I got the bike in 2019 - with a Mavic Open Pro rim to match the front wheel on a nice Miche large flange hub. Finally finished it today, ready to ride to work on Tuesday.
