Assuming you are talking about the Cardiff store, it is only closing temporarily, for refurbishment.Well GoOutdoors are closing locally. So I got some new pedals at a reasonable price.
42/11 is still a pretty useful top gear - probably more usable than 46/11 for most non-racers in most circumstances.A couple of chainrings ordered from Spa for my main bike, 42 and 26 teeth, and a 11-34 cassette to go with them.
The bike is currently 46/30 with a 11-40 cassette, so I'll lose a bit of top end.
My local one did that but then they got rid of the bike section and replaced it with a wheelbase outlet instead. Good in the sense it’s quality stuff but bad in the sense they are phasing out the cycling outlets ran by them.Assuming you are talking about the Cardiff store, it is only closing temporarily, for refurbishment.
But indeed a good sale before they do

I only have 40/11 on my 1x11 bike and rarely feel under-geared. On fast downhills, I just freewheel once I get to 50 km/hr (31-32 mph).
Well despite my name and other hints my links to Cardiff are tenuous.
I did graduate from there and moved on shortly after.
So, would you like to guess again?
Not really. It seems there are a few of their shops either being refurbished or closing.
I thought I remembered seeing other things suggesting you were in South Wales, but obviously misremembered.
I can't do it for long either, but the only time I do those speeds is downhill so I would spin like mad to get to 50 kmph then just get low on the drops and freewheel. I prefer 80-90 rpm too!You must ride at an exceptionally high cadence. Even with a 50/11, I am just about spinning out at around 35mph. I certainly couldn't pedal at the 109 needed for 30mph on a 40/11 for very long, though I do hit it as a max on some of my rides.
Anything much above about 95 isn't sustainable for more than a few minutes for me - normally average around 80 over the course of a ride.
