A 9 speed chain for the Raleigh listed above a bit. That'll go on later this week, along with a new brake cable.

Then I'll have to decide what I do with it. It's lighter than the Avanti, but not 10 speed, and not as light as son no. 2's battered half-carbon Columbus X-Wing.

A couple of inner tubes, pair of skewers with allen key fixings, three chains of two different specs, threadlock, wet lube, a cassette.

Heady days indeed!!

Will shortly remember the other vital piece of kit I've forgotten.

Some Halfords Advanced T-Handle Allen keys in a modular tray. I'm a Halfords Trade card holder; so these were just £20.80 all-in :becool:

My Dear departed Mother started me on Halfords Professional stuff maybe 30 odd years ago. And for its very reasonable cost versus its great quality; I've just kept on adding over the years. Its now called Advanced of course; not Professional. But the idea is the same. If you break an item in normal use - Halfords replace it...........

Infact (And i'm a Mechanical Engineer by day)......i have heard a few stories about guys on their tools - now choosing Halfords gear over the incredibly well known Snap-On branded items; who also have the same "Break it and get it replaced free-of-charge" motto. The reason being Snap-On supposedly now want you busted / broken / bent item back to do an "investigation" on - and look into or find out why its happened. Which can take some time - and leaves you without that busted / broken / bent item that earns you a living ! I'm also told it's now far more common for a Snap-On item to become bent / broken than it was in years gone by. Quality cutting / money saving you have to ask ?

Where-as..........supposedly Halfords pretty much always don't ask any questions upon you entering the Store with a defective item. And just hand you back a new shiny / non-bent / working one in replacement.

Not sure i've ever had to test this "Warranty" procedure out yet ? Lets hope i never have to....

I'm going to be selling a pile of parts / old wheels / spare bikes shortly.

But ... that's from a drive to focus on higher level componentry. And I've been watching a pair of Veltec carbon wheels on eBay for a while; I've run an aluminium set for a few years and they're great. This lunch-time the price dropped again, so I've bought them. Just the thing for use on hilly rides ...

Spares for the Fuji from Tredz - pads were the same price as everywhere else but the chainring was a fair bit cheaper and they're also offering 10% off components currently ;)

Seems the price of some bits might be coming down a little currently as shops attempt to maintain some cashflow in the face of falling sales..
