I did drive a couple of automatics neither of which belonged to me.
A farmer friend loaned me his Daf pickup for a specific trip. Weird thing and in a long line of traffic it kept changing up and down the box and nothing I could do to keep it on one gear. When I arrived at my destination about 20 miles away I discovered all his sheepdogs in the back.
The other was a Peugeot505 I think which was nice but only had 3 forward gears so a big jump and I learned to force a gear change down before the system which made it a bit more lively.
