The legends that are Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott at the Sheffield Arena

Paul and Jacqui were, as always, awesome. Paul was quite chatty between songs last night, and Jacqui bless her was struggling with a sore throat but soldiered on and they delivered a fantastic romp through the new album and a back catalogue that stretches right back to 1985.

However, Sheffield Arena is a dump of the highest order. It's one of the oldest arenas in the county and by heck you can't half tell. Bugger all leg room, grumpy staff and a stage about half a mile away. It was absolutely freezing in there last night, not helped by a cold breeze rattling through the place as the external doors open directly onto the concourse and the doors to the seating were being kept open. It's the first indoor gig I've been to where virtually the entire crowd kept their coats, hats, gloves and scarves on - there were even people sat with their hoods up trying to keep warm. It's the last gig we'll go to there - if we can't get tickets at Leeds or Manchester then we'd rather miss out that suffer that dump again.

Some might say (see what I'm doing here) that this bloke is crap, but I haven't seen Noel Gallagher live since the late 90's, and I'd really like to. I'm refusing to go as I really dislike arena gigs, but it's all he seems to be doing recently. I've seen Neil Young and Damien Rice in arenas and the atmosphere was bloody awful, it's just a big shed.
These days I like a small venue, or in summer I can stomach a stadium as I'm out in the fresh air.

Leeds Arena is fantastic - it's a crescent shape, not the usual big shed and as far as I know it's unique in the UK. What that means is that everyone is reasonably near the stage and gets a good view.

Last night was Steve Walwyn at the Musician, he had a few guests play one of whom was Max from the Della Grants.

Thoroughly nice bloke and a cyclist too (He's done LeJoG twice)

Despite him being 'known' for his work with Dr Feelgood I've been watching him since 82 with a band called the DT's who broke up years ago. they did a couple of reunion gigs I was lucky enough to be at.

I did think about going, I saw Maxx's posts on facebook, it did look like a cracking gig.

The first time I came across The Della Grants they were supporting Dr Feelgood. They blew the place away, then Steve came on stage and helped them clear their kit up - thats when I understood they were special.
