Thats lovely Derrick. I have always fancied one. I work at europes largest sail loft. You would like it here. What material are your sails made from? What would be the initial cost of a decent yacht and RC controller?

Did 1/8 scale rally-X cars for a while (Kyosho Inferno and so on) before moving on to R/C planes and helis which took all of my 'disposable' income for 25 years. Stopped that after a dear friend who taught me to fly, was my best man and so much more, passed away far too young. Never felt the same afterwards.
I suppose DIY is my hobby, I enjoy working with wood. That said, I seem to be playing with bikes quite a lot recently..

Sails are made of Dacron. This is quite an old one. But there are strict rules for the class. So not a lot you can change. This is still competetive at club level.stands me in about £250.00.Could do with some new sails. These are a bit tired

Been a life long fan of RC aircraft but haven't done much down here as I like unpowered slope soaring and can't find a site here.
My favourite branch of it is power slope soarers, powered prototypes converted to gliders. This is one of my last models, same as the white/red one, built from the same plan but unfortunately destroyed by kids! It'd an Embraer Tucano, a turbo prop used by the RAF as a pre jet trainer.

Been thinking about a DLG, a discus launched glider. Ultra light carbon/foam with micro components launched by peg on the wing.
If anyone is interested here's how it works;

RC helicopters are fun, I've only just got one for my son (tiny one) but the level of stability/engineering for £15 is very impressive.
I may buy him a proper RC car for christmas.

Which dacron is it. There is a huge range of dacron cloths. What grade of dacron is it?
We have class rules for our racing sails. A bit bigger than yours. Obviously ^_^

I tried DLG when it was in it's infancy, amazing how much height you could get from a decent launch. I learnt to fly 'properly' with slope soarers, had an annual 2 week holiday to the Isle Of Wight for just that. Bowman Simple Sailman was the starter at 118" (I still have it), before things like Chriss Foss Phase 6, Soar Ahead Sailplanes stuff and so on. Still have a Graupner Cherry SE II in the loft somewhere, plus a few vintage models with sentimental value.

Nothing any more. I've kinda been looking for something but not finding anything that appeals. I have just downloaded the Roger Musson wheel building book and intend to make his wheel stand and then build some wheels.

Funnily enough, I'm just tracking a mate in his yacht on his way to Gibraltar
that was always on mine too, even had a yacht for a while and learnt to sail her all by myself (nobody would ever come out with me), it wasn't all I thought it might have been either, its very cold all of the time (even on a hot summers day), you're always wet, and you just get stotted about all the time, permanently covered in bruises, trying to sleep is completely impossible for the noise of stuff banging about, water sloshing against the side and the fear of been mowed down by something like an oil tanker, trying to cook anything is also totally impossible so entire diet is tins of cold ambrosia creamed rice - and on top of all that everything is stupidly expensive.

the only enjoyment in owning a boat is selling it to somebody else.

Oh, and I never got round the world either, in fact I never got out of site of land, it was more Captain Redbeard Rum than Ellinor Mcarthur
My cousin briefly owned a yacht. He said it was like standing in a cold shower tearing up £50 notes. This from a guy with the sea in his blood, he was a Chief Engineer in the merchant navy!
