Honestly, you dodged a bullet there.

It would have been *better* definitely.

Which is why they were shoehorned into the movie. They also used orchestrations and tunes from the original Lion King which only served to remind you of how pi$$ poor the new songs were. I can only think that Lin Manuel Miranda was busy and found them some scrapings off the floor and said "will these do?".

The advert made it look bad enough.

The "live action" Disney films are very hit and miss too.

Films don't seem to work for me anymore.

Dodged Mary Poppins this afternoon, whilst the management dribbled through it.
Dire is a kind word for it. The actual production and colour is outstandingly bad.
But it is very old, but that hardly excuses just how bad it is.

Well, it kind of does. Some of the techniques used were state of the art - like combining the actors with animations. Movies had only been in colour for 10 years when it was made.

Given that it has 97% on RottenTomatoes, the multiple academy awards, golden globes, grammies etc and it being considered Walt Disney's crowning achievement in his lifetime, it does suggest that rather than it being a dire movie with terrible production values, you just don't like it.

Which is fine. We are all entitled not to like movies.

"Chief of Station" on Amazon Prime.

Here is my short review: "It is so bad, it is actually quite...

... appalling!
" It would be an insult to the intelligence of a single-celled organism, living precariously on the fringes of a primordial swamp!

This film is for those people who like being disappointed by ludicrous 'action', and find a game of Cluedo with two 6 year olds scarily suspenseful.

Honestly, assault rifle magazines do not hold 3,794 bullets. When those weapons are fired repeatedly at a vehicle 10 metres in front, yes they do make lots of holes in the vehicle. They also maim or kill the occupants of the car, and tend to make it undriveable pretty damn quickly...

Speaking of speed... When the baddies with the assault rifles are chasing you and are only 10 metres behind, please ignore the 50 km/hr speed limit!

The baddies were desperate to find the vitally important secret object, which turned out to be an electronic key. This was to a small padlock on a door which could be kicked open by two 6 year olds once they finished scaring you at Cluedo. There was a laptop in there with SECRET DAMNING INFORMATION on it. The baddies were desperate to find it because that was the only place that the secrets could possibly be. Once they had the laptop they would be safe. There couldn't possibly be copies of those secrets anywhere else.

The quite baddies were not the real baddies, the quite baddies turned out to be quite goodies. Some of the goodies turned out to be the arch baddies... Yep, that's original.

In the final showdown, the younger arch baddie with a gun (who had just survived a grenade exploding in the car and a subsequent crash) knew that the older goodie without a gun had got up to some seriously bad sh*t when he was young, so why not put the gun down, do that cricking the neck thing, then pretend that you are an extra in a low-budget 1970s Hong Kong martial arts B movie? And then the older guy unexpectedly wins... as they do!

The son of the chief actual goodie had promised to avenge the murder of his mum by another arch baddie, and fortunately he had one grenade left to do it with. Just in case he changed his mind the arch baddie laughed and reminded him that he was killer of mom. BOOM!

What else...? Oh, the baddies who were going to kill all the goodies hadn't actually killed the missing girlfriend of the son, or even molested her, despite being seriously unpleasant baddies. In fact she seemed quite jolly when she unexpectedly reappeared at the end of the film.

Apart from that, it was great! :okay:

It’s never been my cup of tea, even as a child.
But it’s a children’s fantasy adventure, filmed entirely inside a massive studio. For me the false backdrops and lighting are what gives it a somewhat fake look, but a certain old fashioned charm.
But you can’t judge it by modern standards.

Van Dyke's accent is pretty unforgivable though!

But otherwise I agree. For me, context is a huge thing when it comes to when a film came out and what it contributed in terms of advancing film making techniques.

For example, I hate Avatar, but a lot of what went in to making it pushed boundaries in pretty incredible ways.

The Conclave. Good film, excellent actors/active, brilliantly filmed. Good story without sensationalism. Recommended (but subject to your taste in films/stories).

I, Tonya. Managed to struggle through the 1st hour before giving-up. I just couldn't see any point to the film, didn't seem to be about anything.

Despite having Netflix & Amazon Prime Video, I still struggle to find a decent film to watch.
Maybe I'm just getting took particular in my old age as I tend to end up watching films I've seen before, one of the recent ones being 'Juggernaut' with Richard Harris & Omar Sharif - !

We spend hours scouring 4 streaming services looking for something good and rarely find something we haven't seen already. My suggestion to the Mrs is subscribe to one at a time, by the time we've watched all Netflix has to offer, there should be new stuff added to Prime for example and we then go around them all 2 or 3 months at a time

Didn't Dire Straits have some lines about so many channels on cable TV but nothing to see in one of their hit songs?
