Heavy Trip - 7/10

Small town Finnish heavy metal band decide to stop doing cover versions, record their own tune and try to get a live gig, despite the misgivings of the lead singer. It's quite slow until the final third which is an absolute riot.

Shades of Anvil and Spinal Tap with some absolutely killer tunes thrown in. Even if you're not a fan of the music it's a fun and touching film with some genuinely laugh out loud moments.

Dave Made a Maze - 9/10

A frustrated creative builds a labyrinth in his living room while his girlfriend is away. Though tiny on the outside it is cavernous inside and full of traps. It must have been an absolute hoot to make, the sets are incredibly inventive and the story is both relatable and touching. My girlfriend has been on at me for ages to watch it and I'm glad I finally did, highly recommended.

The only thing that annoys me is that I had a very similar idea years before for my daughter, The Christmas Minotaur (turn the house into a labyrinth, if she makes it out she gets her presents), so now when I do it this year it's just going to look like I ripped this off.

Fear Street: 1666 (Netflix)
The series dips its toe into folk horror territory in the final instalment (albeit for a frustratingly short amount of time, given that the saga needs to be bookended by a recap and denouement in the latest part of the timeline). A strong entry in the trilogy though, despite this, keeping the unsparing attitude to violence and terror of the earlier films, and adeptly mimicking folk horror stylings in the way '94 picked up Scream and its imitators, and '78 aped the 70's slasher. The accents are *terrible* in the 1600s section, so be aware of that going in, but the film is still great.

I'm looking forward to binging the entire series and spotting the links and foreshadowing I missed on the first go through.

Mission Impossible: Fallout (TV)
Implausible, but very fun action from the long running series.

An oldie
I've seen parts of it before, but not in entirety

'To Sir With Love'

Sidney Poitier is absolutely wonderful in the role
The racism of London (& indeed Britain) i part of it - it had to be
His dignity, compassion, sheer personality shines through

Maybe at points, it's stereotyped, but it's no worse for it!

If it had been Americanised, & remade a few years, maybe Avery Brooks could have played the same role

Dare I say, Suzi Kendall (young blonde teacher, with glasses) is gorgeous

Bloodbath at the House of Death (1983)

Spoof horror which doesn't take it's self too seriously, which isn't that surprising when the cast includes -

Kenny Everett
Pamela Stephenson
Vincent Price
Gareth Hunt
Don Warrington
Cleo Rocos
Barry Cryer

Looks a little dated now but still worth a 6/10.
