We are watching Armageddon tonight! I’d forgotten what a fantastic film it is! Total fromage but still makes me cry!! My son is engrossed!

Local Hero... watched it many times over the years and it gets that little better each time... I always find something new to tickle me.

The last time i watched it a few years ago, I was chuckling each time the motorbike went past.

This viewing it was Peter Capaldi running

But looking forward to Black Widow tonight. Although I believe it’s more of an action spy film rather than a Marvel CGI-fest, so Ms Johanssen may not be in Lycra as much as I might like.

Inherit The Wind - fictional account of the 1925 Scopes 'monkey trial', which saw a Tennessee teacher in the dock, for teaching evolution. Spencer Tracey at his best, with excellent support from a great cast, including Gene Kelly putting in a cracking turn as a cynical journalist. Undeniably a tad 'stagey' by modern norms (it was adapted from a play), it's nevertheless a stonewall masterpiece with a superb script, terrific cinematography, and flawless direction. Made at the height of - and as an avowed response to - McCarthyism; political moviemaking gets no better.

Tonight, John Wick 3. Rather excellent, like the first two.

The one where the musician wakes in a world where’s there’s no Beetles and releases the songs, I can’t remember the title.
It reminded me which songs were decent and the tosh ones.

I really liked the first two Wick movies. I thought the third one was a little over the top in the ridiculously absurd shootout scenes. Not only does he never die. He doesn't even get shot. C'mon. Give your audience a little more credit than that.

Fear Street: 1978 (Netflix)
The '70s slasher fits less easily into the Fear Street formula than the 1990's one did, but this is still pretty good, only suffering when the supernatural elements and the killer "team" are brought in. Looking forward to the next, and concluding, part.

The Empty Man (Disney+)
A solid 3 star horror lifted out of that category by some big ideas and a really impressive ending. James Badge Dale is very good in the lead.

St. Maud (Blu Ray, but I believe its on Prime now)
Psychological horror about a young carer with a dark secret in her past. Really very good, and surprisingly compact - in a world of sprawling films, this clocks in at an economical 85 or so minutes. Astonishingly, it's a directorial debut too.
