Ha, ha. Incest and the Bible. It only needed some guilt-tripping about the war and the Germans and it would win any game of Dutch cultural self-obsession Top Trumps.

Anyway, enough of my self-obsessive trumpery.

Hail, Caesar.
Not up there with Fargo and The Big Lebowski as the Coen's greatest films, but very enjoyable. Could have done with more mystery, but I really enjoyed the homage/pastiche of Hollywood's golden age. Josh Brolin was outstanding. 8.756655 /10

Kubo and the Two Strings
Interesting story, emotionally engaging, good voice acting and characterisation, and beautifully animated. The latter is where I have to criticise it, as several shots seemed to be there simply to show off the animator's artistic talents rather than to serve the story. Nevertheless, well worth a watch. Possibly a bit dark for very sensitive children. 7.7777 /10

Sunday night
Sadly I only part of it, as I only realised it was on after watching 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D'

It was................. 'Tank Girl'
I've seen it a couple of times before (Malcolm McDowell seemingly plays the same mad scientist/ego-maniac, as Dr Soren in the Star-Trek Generations film)

Watching it, I couldn't help but think that Lori Petty, in the role as 'T G', must have contributed to the creation in the BatMan canon of Harley Quinn
(I believe HQ appeared in animation, before comics)
There certainly seems a similarity to the 'Suicide Squad' rendition of H Q

'Dredd' was on the other night too (the Karl Urban film)
Again, I've seen it before, but recorded it to try and persuade SWMBO to watch it, as a view of a very dystopian future

New on Netflix. After watching 'I,Daniel Blake', which has changed my views on lots of issues. I have started to watch the odd documentary or twelve and this one was truly shocking.

Try Inside Job, which I watched last night. Gobsmacking. Some sample quotes:

"Between 2000 and the collapse in 2007, Lehman Brothers' top five executives received over $1billion in pay and bonuses."

"Stan O' Neill, the CEO of Merrill Lynch, received $90 million in 2006 & 2007 alone. After the company went bust, the Board allowed O' Neill to resign, and awarded him $161 million in severance pay."

"Between 1998 and 2008 the financial industry spent over $5billion on lobbying and political contributions."

Basically, spend a couple of hours watching the mutually-reinforcing members of the Rich Boys Club cheerfully getting together to give each other absolutely staggering sums, knowing full well that when the whole thing imploded their institutions (and The Institution of which they were all a part) were 'too big to fail', so all the money they had taken would be repaid by factory workers, nurses, policemen, window cleaners, accountants, lorry drivers, barbers, traffic wardens...bit by bit, year after year, now and for generations to come.

Here's the trailer. Roll on the revolution...

What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? Blimey. Bette Davies is terrifying. Apparently she did her own makeup, saying Baby Jane Hudson never washed...she just put on more makeup. Excellent support from Joan Crawford (who apparently loathed Davies - a feeling by all accounts entirely reciprocated) and one Victor Buono, who plays a relatively minor part impeccably. But it's Davies's show, and boy does she steal it. A stonewall classic - I'm only surprised it won just one Oscar, and that only for 'Costume Design, Black & White'. 9/10.

Catching up on this thread.

Honestly, not a spelling quibble but the word you are looking for is Kosher.

Dammit. Too bad you didn't say this at the time. That would be a perfect quote for the movie poster!

No. Just no. Wednesday Addams would not become a P.A.

Bah, knew the spelling didn't look quite right.

The Odd Couple. Jack Lemmon & Walter Matthau were never better - and are surely one of the all-time Hollywood pairings - and the Simon script is just perfection. Still studded with laugh out loud moments, but they're almost secondary to the sweet & sour pitch he maintains from first

Felix Ungar: A room, please.
Hotel clerk: You alone?
[Felix nods]
Hotel clerk: Luggage?
[Felix shakes his head]
Hotel clerk: How long do you want it for?
Felix Ungar: Oh, not very long.

to last.

Felix Ungar: In other words, you’re saying you want me to leave?
Oscar Madison: Not in other words! Those are the perfect words!

A masterclass.
