Wonderful little stop motion animation film - lovely characterisations, fantastic art direction and a lovely story. Hugely inventive and thoroughly enjoyable.

There's a lot of the concept art here;

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

As what I'd term a "casual" fan, (don't mind the franchise, thought the prequels a bit poo, would have caught this on DVD if number one son hadn't wanted to go), I enjoyed this.

Imagine a modern Star Wars film, made by someone who understands character, tonal shifts, humour, writing for the screen and cinematography, and that's it. It works fairly well as an action film, a pretty well as a Star Wars film, limited in the former only by being shackled to the extensive, Lucas created canon (imo). This is a promising start, and tellingly, the more interesting characters (it seems to me) are the new ones in the franchise, which bodes well.

Whilst I thought this instalment stayed the right side of a sore neck in terms of nodding to the original trilogy, I'm hoping that the upcoming films spread their wings a little more, ideas wise.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Im sitting here now watching sherlock holmes and the hound of the baskervilles starring Basil Rathbone, a 1939 version. Basil is by far the best sherlock ever IMHO. I have all the sherlock holmes films on DVD. Proper sherlock he is.

Elizabethtown, Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst star. Orlando, soon to be gigantic shoe designer failure, returns home to collect his recently deceased father, meets Kisten on the way, meets large dysfunctional family, etc. blah de blah. Film got a right panning from the critics but what do they know, it's actually quite good fun.

The Freebird scene is hilarious.

Now you see me. Seen it before and it's a great movie.

It's not a film, but both seasons of Yonderland. Made by the troupe that made Horrible Histories and Bill, it's been described as a mixture of Labyrinth and Monty Python. Sublime silliness for all ages.

Oh, and that Star Wars thing. I enjoyed it, but I'm slightly disappointed that JJ didn't manage to crowbar Sabotage in there somewhere.

Fast & Furious 7

I don't really like the idea of guilty pleasures, but this series is probably as close as I get. Not quite as strong as 6, I thought, but a rather moving send off for Paul Walker, the usual physics defying spectacle in the set pieces, and a guest cast including Ronda Rousey, Tony Jaa, and Jason Statham, as well as the returning regulars. The idea of the crew as a family is reinforced further, and the whole thing is really rather enjoyable, and the series hasn't suffered too much from the departure of Justin Lin, on this evidence.

I dont remember the battle scenes being so epic but i suppose they had the pad out the film for the general cinema going public and i am sure theycut some stuff out but it has been a long time since i read the book.
