Unbroken. Movie about a POW held by the Japanese during WW2. The POW was a former Olympic athlete who got beat up a lot by the Japanese bad guy camp commander. To me it was like a mix of Memphis Belle, Castaway and The Railway Man. It got a little slow in places but some nice scenery and decent special effects helped.

Watched MASH earlier, it has been on my Youview box for over 2 years.

We watched Noah last night. Russell Crowe was in it although I think he thought he was in another movie altogether - Gladiator meets the Bible, to be honest I think his Gladiator character was more humane than his Noah. Ray Winstone was playing Ray Winstone. The story was utter nonsense.

Just finished Tucker and Dale vs. Evil

8/10

An entertaining twist on the tired [people you don't care about] get massacred by [baddies] in the [location] genre. Full of neat nods to classic horror, very funny and genuinely quite touching in places, coupled with some really inventive gory scenes. Up there with Cabin in the Woods as proof that mainstream horror can be excellent when it tries, or doesn't rehash something from the 80s.

A full length Stan and Ollie feature. Not their best by any means, as they're almost comedy support for a rather weak musical, with matinee idol singing stars. That said, the boys are very good when they're on screen, and there are some good moments, but though the romantic leads are fine, and good singers (alas not good songs), you're just waiting for the boys to come on again.

But it does have a scene involving shifting a piano across an Indiana Jones style rope bridge over a ravine, whilst battling an escaped gorilla, so even if it's one of the boys' weaker efforts, it's still pretty funny, and I've not regretted paying good money to see far worse.

Flame and Citron 7/10

A film in Danish and German set in Copenhagen during WWII about 2 members of the Danish resistance, their activities and who are ultimately betrayed, escape, get found and executed. Different angles to the usual scenario for these films but nothing stunningly special.

I really like that one.

I watched Eastern Promises - a bit overblown and melodramatic, with a third act that felt like it might have been from another film. Not terrible, but I don't think I'd rush to see it again.

I'm a big Cronenberg fan, but I do feel he disappeared up his own arse with that one a bit. Viggo Mortensen was typically brilliant though.

For some strange reason I put myself through the task of watching Apocalypse Now. Is it me or is that film a long winded bore fest? Were they all on lsd when this was made!

Sometimes there are films I feel I ought to have watched because of their iconic reputation. I found the Deerhunter a bit like this. Had to plough on through !

We all went to see Paddington over the New Year and it was really funny. From ages 4 - 42 we all loved it. Nicole Kidman was excellent so there was something for everyone.

We had a horrorfest a couple of years ago and watched Deliverance. I think the problem is that mid eighties the pacing of films suddenly increased dramatically and it hasn't really slowed down. Going back to films prior to that they are prone to appearing to be stuffed with lots of filler. Although Deerhunter was always a slog.
