I've heard the term and wondered what exactly contributes to it. I know your body continues to burn calories at a higher rate after a workout with the bike but why? Does your heart rate have to remain elevated for sometime to benefit from this phenomenon?

It contributes to blokes being able to say "sheesh, that was a hard ride, I really had the afterburn", and their mate to nod knowlingly without a clue what he's on about. And so it passes from one nobber to the next...

Haha, is it all just pants then? I've been trying to time how long it takes my HR to return to normal to see if this could be a real thing.

Basically, your body will consume 'energy' to rebuild reserves and repair after exercise. As for HR, then if fit, it will return to normal quite quickly. Aon't get too worried and make sure you have a nutritional food source after exercise. Milk is brilliant !!! None of this expensive stuff.

I misread that at first:eek:.
